macbwt
So jiffy lube or your dealer says change the air filter because it looks dirty?
enigma-2
I was taught in auto class (long ago and far, far away) to hold the filter up to the sunlight and see if you can see the sun through it. If you can, knock the dirt out of it and replace in car. If not it's dirty and needs replacing. Don't know if the same logic holds for modern cars.

DRbillZ
I'm glad to see someone finally gets that a slightly dirty air filter filters better.

macbwt
Before? During? or after? or All three? Thinking I might not wash it. Just bang it out and replace then see how far it goes on that method. Edited May 30, 2016 by macbwt
