enigma-2
Took my 09 MKX in for the gas tank rdcall, they dropped the tank and it's bad, needs changing. No problems or leaks at all. Was rusting on top, where you can't see it. Getting a new tank for free. If you haven't taken yours in yet, don't put it off. Thought mine was fine but it was rusted, not rusted through, but would have faied sooner or later. They also found that my PTU seals are leaking, so new shaft seals (gotta find something, right?) Gave me a 2016 MKX as a loaner. Believe it or not, I want my 09 back! (Grin)

enigma-2
Just picked it up. Took about 3 hours for tank change and PTU seals. Asked about tank and Asst Service rep said that it was rusted around where the two shell halves were welded together. Hadn't rusted through yet, but Ford determined that it's not possible to prevent it and they are changing all tanks. New tank has a different coating and different straps.
edgemaster
I have a 2009 Ltd. Didn't know about the tank recall. Is there any way to find out if the tank has been replaced already? I bought the car just recently and I have not heard from Ford so far re any recall. What other recalls are there?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
owner.ford.com + your VIN will show you relevant outstanding Field Service Actions for your vehicle. You can ask any Ford dealer also, or Ford Customer Service directly.

edgemaster
I checked at owner.ford.com website and the only recall that popped up was the airbag recall, which I know about. So, looks like there is no tank recall on my vehicle.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
which most likely means the tank has been replaced already. would have to check again if there were geographic restrictions that might have excluded your Edge from the recall, though. A dealer or Ford would ultimately provide the best verification. These things go by specific ID (in this case VIN), not a general identifier (such as model year). So some 2009's could have been affected, and others not.
edgemaster
I believe the recall was issued for certain northern states only, on account of salt usage during winter. Since I'm located in the Austin, TX area, the recall probably didn't involve my vehicle.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Based on areas of high humidity, so best to check by VIN. Unfortunately the Ford owner site does not provide information on recalls considered completed. And really it should. This type of information should travel with the vehicle regardless of ownership. More comfortable in mine. I prefer knobs over menus, lower center consul over higher, wider seats over narrower, softer, squisher ride, the 2016 was very firm (but that may have been the tires). Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd mine is paid for.
