Mrjohnnyk
Hi everyone, I just picked up a 2012 edge sel. It has the 2.0L ecoboost engine, I'm hearing a weird noise coming from the engine bay. Under acceleration I hear it then it stops until I let off the gas until I come to a stop. It sounds like a card in bicycle rim, but more rapid. Almost like something is hitting the turbine. Also, I don't know if I should be able to hear the turbo on acceleration with this motor but I don't. Thanks in advance!
tamugrad2013
I do not know about the card noise all I can think of is it the DI. I haven't ever heard anything other than that. I also rarely hear the turbo on acceleration unless I am under a bridge or when I was driving in the mountains and tunnels of North Carolina. Hi Johnny, I got the same car as yours and I also have been noticing that noise! I once showed it to a mechanic and he said the noise is coming from where the exhaust pipe originates. He said its no big deal but if that noise bothers you that much we can replace that section with something more solid. I have decided to leave it for now. k9182
My car has the exact same noise. I did check the exhaust pipe, and shake it hardly. I cannot find the source yet. Please share how to fix the noise. p/s: this weird noise happened 1-2 times / year for last few years. It become more frequent lately. enigma-2
Wheel bearing (esp rear). Test by turning right or left. If sound goes away or gets louder, probably bearing. (Weight of car changes in turn allows car to lean and increase or decrease bearing load on that side). Other possibilities, under floor insulation loose or bent contacting axle, something touching brake rotor or wheel, center axle bearing.
