jmr061
Text message doesn't show messages but will read new ones. Just like it is now. And no, no keyboard in park either. I would suggest watching some youttube videos on the use of Carplay...its standard across all platforms....at least it is supposed to be.

Tjm623
Thanks for updates, sadly the fact that I have to plug in for mobile apps or CarPlay kills this feature for me. That cubby is in a terrible location when car is in park. I can barely reach my hand into the slot, let alone plug the USB in I have to use the tips of my fingers. I don't see myself using the feature as changing the source to my phone gives me access to all my music. When this becomes wireless I think it'll be a much bigger deal.

I doubt you will see it wireless. No way for Ford to do the Apple authentication. Ford would have to modify the APIM.
Tjm623
Yea I know, I didn't mean for these cars or ever by next year. I definitely see it being the norm in say 2020? Maybe earlier. I just don't feel like there's much use as you mentioned with already having nav to warrant having to plug my phone when I get in my car to use a different UI, with some different apps. I don't have or want a phone mount and that leaves me with the option of tossing it into that slot next to USB and either forgetting my phone when I do get out, or driving around with that slot open and more than likely still forgetting my phone down there

I'm in a lease, can this in any way cause blowback? I understand there is always a chance of bricking system.

sulp
I updated my 16 Sport Sync 3 from 1.0 to 2.2 yesterday via flash drive and I worked flawlessly. I also ordered the USB hub from Walt Sweeney and it will be arriving tomorrow along with some plastic pry tools from Amazon. I've watched a few videos and the install doesn't look too bad at all. Originally I thought I could just pry the USB hub itself without touching anything else (hence the pry tools) but that's not the case. Have to remove side panel and get at it from inside & behind. Still looks pretty easy. I'll update on the install with pics when I get the part. 2.2 seems better and I like the few small additions to the UI. Ray Heath Jr
Someone on Facebook said they were auto updated via wifi in February to 2.2. Anyone else get the update via wifi? I would think going from 2.0 to 2.2 could be done over Wifi, but no way the installer that is being downloaded. Way to large, to transfer while most of our cars are briefly on Wifi, not to manage most people do it via Hotspot. Data plan would be trash. akirby
I assumed it stayed connected to wifi while the vehicle was off and could do the download overnight.
Ray Heath Jr
I assumed it stayed connected to wifi while the vehicle was off and could do the download overnight. Nope. Not the way it has been documented to work. The radio powers completely down after a short period of time, hence why the best way to do the 2.2 install is to drive while it is doing it. akirby
So it stays connected for a short time after shutting off the vehicle? As long as it can stop and restart the download that should eventually work even for large downloads. If it only stays connected while the vehicle is running then wi-fi updates will never happen. JSchneid
I have called twice about the download failure message. I now have two ticket numbers but no software or answers. I did get my new USB module installed. I ordered it from Walt Sweeney Ford. After installing I would get a message "USB hubs are not supported. Please remove.". I did a Master Reset which stopped that message. When I started my car earlier today, SIRIUS downloaded and installed an update. I now know that my WiFi connection is doing something. Come to think of it, SIRIUS could have been updating via satellite. Edited May 4, 2017 by JSchneid
