lilcharmer214
Hi! Newbie here and shopping around for a Ford Edge. I test drove a few 2016 models and loved them but then saw many 2015 models with all the same features but cheaper and would be willing to buy...but then I read about how dreadful the SYNC system has been, at least for older models. Everything else about the 2015 is just as nice. So how bad is the SYNC for the average 2015 owner? Do they have updates and options that are working for most people? Or would it be best to spend the extra money and get the 2016 with the SYNC 3. Note: infotainment is very important to me as I stream music and podcasts on all my commutes. Thanks! akirby
Sync or MyFordtouch? Based on your last statement I think you should get sync 3. But it would be easy enough for you to test out on a 2015 with MFT to see how it works for you.
Nick Halstead
I can't speak about sync3 but...MFT has been problem free for me for the most part. it has it's hiccups, start the car and pull out the driveway and the display is still turning on. I also have a 500GB external plugged in so I attribute it loading the file it stores to keep track of all 11,000 mp3s. Honestly, I'd get sync3
lskarha
We have had no issues with our 2015. We wicked up the Edge late Oct. (Our 2013 Edge Sync was always having problems.)However, for features and responsiveness the Sync 3 system in the 2016 it just better overall. Not sure how many dollars you are saving but I would have a hard time paying much extra for the new Sync 3 system. -Lee
lilcharmer214
Thanks everyone. Yes I am speaking about the regular SYNC vs SYNC 3. I do see some 2016 models still have the regular SYNC but the sales guys aren't recommending them.
knickerbocker
Thanks everyone. Yes I am speaking about the regular SYNC vs SYNC 3. I do see some 2016 models still have the regular SYNC but the sales guys aren't recommending them. The base SE and SEL come with regular Sync, but MyFord Touch on Sync 2 definitely isn't a 2016. I love the AppLink on Sync 3. I listen to 100% streaming music via Spotify and the direct integration is fantastic. Lots of room for improvement and new features, and soon to have Apple Carplay and Android Auto too. The Audio system is the same, but if streaming is as important to you as it is to me, than Sync 3 is the only way to go. We waited for the 2016 MY specifically for Sync 3 and have not been disappointed.

You can compare the features to see what suits you best: SYNC - http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync/get-started-with-sync/sync-system-overview.html?sync=sync SYNC 3 - https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/sync-3/setup/getting-started-with-sync-3.html Let me know if you have any questions! Dooley
I have a 2016 Edge purchased in July 2015 and here are some issues I have with Sync: The navigation system is the worst I have used, it has severe routing problems and doesn't have streets and highways that have been existence for years. You cannot use voice commands to enter a waypoint after you have entered a route and are driving. The POI data is hopelessly outdated. The traffic information does not reflect condtions that exist. The whole voice command structure is complex and the unit asks redundant questions and because the microphone is located at the sunroof you frequently can't use voice commands with the roof open. This is in comparison to a 3 year old Garmin GPS in which all of these issues (except occasional routing problems) don't exist. I am going to abandon using this unit as not only is it extremely expensive to buy, but you have to pay for map updates, my $130 Garmin has lifetime maps at no cost and much better, up-to-date information. My Ford maps were hopelessly out of date when I bought the car. Climate Control seems to have a very wide span of temperature control and doesn't provide a consistent temperature. The "I" feature doesn't allow enough time to answer questions and frequently hangs up on you when you aren't quick enough and you have to be really quick. The entertainment system works very well including BT music and USB music devices and is easy to use. The one weakness is that in Sirius you cannot move from 1 - 2 - 3 channel groupings with voice control.
DRbillZ
Got a '15 and Sync works just fine. Don't know what people are complaining about. User error...
lilcharmer214
Hey everyone. Thanks for you responses. I did end up purchasing a '16 Edge SEL with the SYNC 3 and its been fine. enigma-2
The one weakness is that in Sirius you cannot move from 1 - 2 - 3 channel groupings with voice control.Once you're in Sirius mode, you can change the band by voicing the command: "Sat 1","Sat 2" or "Sat 3". You can also switch bands and select a specific button by saying "Sat 2 preset 2" (for example). The would switch to Sirius band 2, and whatever is stored on preset button #2.
