Texas001
My tailgate raises up way too high and if the garage door is open and you open the tailgate it hits the garage door. My daughter has a Nissan and she can control the height of the tailgate by some type of setting. Is there a way to set the maximum height the tailgate will raise? I already have three scratches on the tailgate because I am too dumb to close the garage door before I raise the tailgate or try to close the garage door with the tailgate up. akirby
What did the owner's manual say? If you have the power lift gate it can be adjusted.
Texas001
What did the owner's manual say? If you have the power lift gate it can be adjusted. I don't find anything in the power liftgate section of the owner's manual that tells me how to do any adjusting of the height, that is why I asked here. enigma-2
Look in your owner's manual index (at the back) under "Setting the Liftgate Open Height". Edited April 30, 2016 by enigma-
akirby
You didn't look hard enough. It's there. I think you just set it to the desired height and hold the close button on the hatch until it beeps but you need to check the manual to be safe. omar302
I am not aware of any procedure to do that in the 2007-2014 Edge (2007-2015 MKX). They did add the feature to the new 2015/2016 Edge.
Nick Halstead
I don't know about in the ones prior to the 15s but in the 15up, you let it open then set it to where you want and then hold the close button till it beeps. that sets the height for the 15s, worth a shot in yours though
akirby
I thought our 2008 had that feature but I'm not sure.
omar302
It is definitely not mentioned in the owner's manual for the 2007-2014 models. I knew about it in the 2011+ Explorer. I thought it was due to the Edge having the old system with the power strut as an add on to the liftgate, the 2011+ Explorer doesn't have it. akirby
I thought our 2008 had that feature but I'm not sure. Nothing in the OM for the 2008. Maybe I got confused with the 2014 Escape. Easy enough to test - hold the button on the lift gate for a few seconds and see if it beeps.
enigma-2
To set the 2014 liftgate opening height, press the button and allow the Liftgate to fully open. Then manually move the Liftgate to the opening height you want, then push and hold the Liftgate button until you hear a chime. The new opening height is set. Info came off a how-to video on the Ford site: https://owner.ford.com/content/ford-dot-com/en/how-tos/vehicle-features/liftgate-and-trunk/power-liftgate-release.html Edited May 1, 2016 by enigma-2
Texas001
Nothing in the OM for the 2008. Maybe I got confused with the 2014 Escape. Easy enough to test - hold the button on the lift gate for a few seconds and see if it beeps. It beeps alright but it is closing down on my head. A lot of videos I found on you tube show a separate button. I don't have a special button just the button inside the cargo area, the exterior button, which does nothing, and the one on the dash. I suspect my 2014 Edge SEL does not have this feature and I don't know why. It is not in my owners manual and I looked hard. I noticed there are several positing here that are also not sure about this feature. I called my dealer and they haven't called me back. If I ever figure that out for my Edge I will post it here. enigma-2
I would agree with akirby, it probably doesn't exist on to 2014. If so, about the only thing I could think of, is to put on shocks with a shorter length, -or- possibly some sort of restraint, strap, chain or whatever, cinnected between the top strut connection and the bottom connection points. David Young
A couple years ago when i bought my wife her 2014 Edge Limited the power lift gate would touch the roof of our carport. I looked in the owners manual and found nothing on how to adjust the height. Since this is the only place she goes where she has to worry about the lift gate hitting anything, I glued a nice soft rubber mat to the area of the carport roof. That was a couple years ago and its still working great.
NKB1984
Hey, i found one that works just like the factory one. I installed it on my wifes Edge. I got it from https://truckenhance.com . The link to the aftermarket power liftgate system kit is https://truckenhance.com/product/power-liftgate-system-foot-sensor/ . The best part it comes with a foot sensor to allow you to open the tail gate with you feet! So actually better than the dealer one!...lol. The wife loves it! Works great for those of you that wants one. It took me about 3 hours to do the installation, it's pretty straight forward.
