tamugrad2013
I have been to two auto shows in the past month the Austin Auto Show and the Dallas Auto Show and I sat in both the new Edge and The new MKX. First about the MKX. It looked great in the interior and seemed really well put together, but I could not get the drivers seat comfortable. This was mainly a lumbar issue and no matter how much I moved it back and away it still protruded and killed my back. I was wondering if there was something I was missing. As for the Edge if I was going to be purchasing a Second Gen Edge it would be a hard sell. I feel like the front seats are much narrower than my current 2012 and I feel like it is not as spacious. I guess it is good My Edge only has 60,000 miles on it and it will be at least another 6 to 8 years before I am looking for a replacement. Just my thoughts.
akirby
We bought the MKX over the Edge mainly because of the seats. But I don't have lumbar issues. Seat comfort is a very individual thing.
Brian K
I can't comment on the new MKX but I find our 08 MKX seats very uncomfortable. Something not right (to me) about the head rest angle. Akirby is right - seat comfort is an individual thing
pilotdog68
Head rest angle? You use the headrests?
Brian K
The head rests seem to be too far forward and my neck gets sore from it being as far forward as it seems to be. My Envoy and Mustang don't feel that same and I think it is because they are back just a bit. On a long drive it gets horrible. If I could tilt them back just a bit that would make such a difference. I consider taking them out and bending the tubes that go into the seat backs but If I got them crooked and not get them back in I'd be screwed. I like head rests since I was rear ended many years ago. Saved lots of whiplash.
normkol
Headrests on the new Edge are adjustable, I believe 4 positions, fore and aft.
enigma-2
The adjustable headrests still don't change to angle to go back, tried them to see if worth switching. (Be great if the adjusted back to a true vertical angle, but alas .... ). But there is a fix for tamuggrad2013, my wife hates (with a capital H) the headrest angle. So it's a simple process to take them out and turn them around. You just push in on the adjuster to raise up to max height, but need a paper clip to release the stop on the other post to lift the headrests out of the retainers. On my 09 mkx, my wife's is turned around and mine is normal. Took time but I got used to it. (Common on all new cars, something safety related). Been discussed before here in the forums (do a search), and I seem to remember someine doing a video on YouTube. Guy put the shafts in a vice and bent them. If you don't have a vice, use a pipe and bend each side to the same angle.
akirby
The newer adjustable headrests (have them on the 2013 Fusion and 2016 MKX) are just fine. No issues at all. The ones in our 08 Edge were terrible and I did turn them around once on a long trip. I don't know if they changed the angle of the shaft inside the seat but the new combination is great. enigma-2
I found the ones in the 2016 mkx I had as a loaner, were no better than the ones in my 09. They really didn't go back far enough make me happy. The one's in Mt daughter's 2013 Escape are the same.
