BarbWagner
My rear door suddenly closed, hitting me hard on the top of my head. This is a hazard, what if that was a child. Isn't there a safety device that stops the door from closing if it hits into something. My head still has a huge knot on it and very sore, probably a concussion, if I would have had it x-rayed, has anyone else had this issue happen to them? enigma-2
You need to replace the lift cylinders. Mac has a video on how to do this (super easy).
omar302
It's a 2014 model, the struts should still be fine. Most probable cause is that the a button (dash, cargo or fob) was mistakenly pressed for closing the door. Also note that the lift gate an Obstacle detection feature, from the manual: Obstacle detection: The power liftgate system is equipped with an obstacle detection feature. If the power liftgate is closing, the system will reverse to full open when it detects an obstacle. A chime will sound three times when an obstacle is detected as the liftgate begins to reopen. Once the obstacle is removed, the liftgate can be closed under power. If the power liftgate is opening, the system will stop and a chime will sound three times when an obstacle is detected. Once the obstacle is removed, the liftgate can again be operated normally. Edited April 20, 2016 by omar302

If it were closing (button or otherwise), he would gave heard the warning chime and it would have close slow enough for him to get out if the way. With weak shocks, (and I agree, shouldn't be happening on a 2014), it "could" close without warning, too fast to get out of the way. Easiest way to isolate is to try to repeat it.
