upurz1
i have a 2011 ford edge that is leaking oil from behind the engine and away from it. i had to jack up the ford edge in order to get access from where it is leaking. it almost looks like a filter of some sort. connect to two hoses. i have took pictures of it. hopefully someone can tell me what it is. thanks in advance
fishx65
I know exactly what that is, what the heck is that thing??? Did you follow the lines to see were they go?
macbwt
Not engine oil related, most likely for the power steering or transmission. Red tint says it is one of those systems. Close up photos are good but need orientation photos to tell more.

wlepse
Power steering....check out my thread here: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/17614-can-someone-help-diagnose-this-leak/?hl=%2Bpower+%2Bsteering+%2Bleak Had a similar leak and eventually got a dealership to replace the lines rather than just the banjo bolt that they did several times before.
macbwt
Everything I looked up said power steering hose but I could not find that filter in the diagrams. Guess it is part of the hose. Also since it was so close to the sway bar it had to be power steering related.
upurz1
Wlepse - thank's for sharing your story. At the time I jack the ford edge I really wasnt thinking at the time and didn't follow the hoses. Tomorrow I have time to jack it up and check again to check the lines and the bolt area. I was trying to fine the same part and could not find a motorcraft part for it. I seen other aftermarket parts for the filter. Another problem I was glad to hear, I'm also hearing the same clunk noise too. So hopefully both issue can be fixed. The vechicle has an extended warranty we bought not sure if it would cover it. Need to look into it tomorrow as well. Thanks for info and I will post the outcome as well.
wlepse
That filter is a mystery. I think when I looked up the part number it said a trans filter but not for the Edge.
upurz1
this is a follow up post. took the vehicle to the ford dealer and had them look at the problem. they concluded that the banjo bolt was leaking and they supposedly found a leak at the power steering reservoir and return hose. with parts and labor i was looking into a $600 fix. according to what i have found on the internet is that the banjo bolt are leaking due to the bolt not torque tight enough. they have already updated the torque setting on the installation paper that comes with the new banjo bolt. My Extended warranty only covered the engine and transmission so i was S.O.L. however i chose to make the fix myself, so i went ahead and had them order the parts and went home. took a look at the power steering reservoir and return hose and could not see any leak from under the hood. so i waited to get parts and jack the vehicle up to make sure. got the parts it was around $113 with all parts. the Banjo part was about $12.90. Power Steering Reservoir $67.90 and Return hose $32.93. Once the parts came in I jacked up the vehicle and see the banjo bolt on the steering gear leaking. unbolted and put new one on . torque it to the proper torquing specs. clean all the power steering fluid off the surrounding area. then look underneath at the return hose and power steering reservoir ... NO LEAK., Dry all around the area. So now i know for a fact the dealership was up-selling me on service and parts that was not required. this was only a $12.90 part fix. and they wanted to get $600 for the job. Now im going to call them up and have them take back these parts that i clearly didn't need.

macbwt
Just to clarify the power steering filter shown is no longer available from Ford Ford has discontinued the part. They however will sell you full replacement lines for a very much marked up price. You can use and find after market filters that will work in place of this power steering filter and work just fine.
