Chipster
What sort of life cycle do the batteries in the remote entry fob have? Is there any indication that they are on their "last legs" or do they just go dead? Do you keep spare batteries handy, or just replace them @ some specific time interval? If you do this, how often? akirby
The vehicle will tell you when the battery gets low. The one in my 2013 Fusion was just replaced after 3 years. Two CR2025 batteries.

enigma-2
In.my last car, 5 years and 7 years. All depends on how much their used. Don't buy battery ahead of time. They have a shelf life. If they go dead, you can still open the door using the key. (Remember when ...)? On my 09 there is no indication when they're getting weak. Just wait till they don't work and replace. normcloutier
I've been using the same fob for 3 years. Probably use it at least 10 times a day. More in winter with remote start.

akirby
It is possible you're accidentally keeping the button pressed and that's draining the battery. It could also be a bad fob. Do you keep the fob in the car? Try carrying the other fob and see if it does the same thing. If it does then it's probably you. If not then the fob is probably defective. You can also put a new battery in the original fob and leave it somewhere for a month or two and see if the battery is dead. That would confirm the fob is bad. Waldo
The fob in my Fusion only lasted about 20 months, then after changing it the message popped up a month later. I thought "what??" and then opened it up and realized there are two batteries in the fob, and I had only replaced one!
Texasedge8
My 2013 Edge Limited fob battery lasted almost 4 years with mid to moderate usage. Car would not start with low/bad fob battery due to no signal to anti-theft receiver in steering column. Turn key on steering column and no engine cranking. Changed out battery and worked fine since then (6 weeks ago). No indication on the dashboard panel that fob needed new battery. Takes one 2032 battery and battery is easy to change in fob. normkol
The fob can drain the battery. I had that happen on my 2012 Toyota Rav4 I just replaced with the Edge. One original fob was going through batteries every two weeks. I had used Maxell bought on Amazon and thought that could be the problem. I then bought Energizer and Duracell retail at Walgreen's and the problem was the same. Switched to a fob I had bought on eBay and haven't changed the battery in months, until I got the Edge.
