sscutchen
2008 Edge Limited. Something was left on and the battery totally drained. But that's OK! I have jumper cables! Except they are in the spare tire storage compartment. And even if I crawl over into the back, the panel is trapped by the liftgate. Is there any way to manually open the liftgate without electrics? akirby
Push button, pull up. Am I missing something?
enigma-2
I thought the button was electrical only. Didn't realize it was also mechanical. If pressing the button doesn't work, you could drop the back seats and crawl back far enough to pull up the cargo cover where it butts up to the back seat, and reach under. If you have a small battery charger, hook it up and press the button. Edited April 8, 2016 by enigma-
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The Power Liftgate feature can beenabled or disabled using theMessage Center. With the control inthe OFF position, power operationis disabled from the liftgate handlebutton and from the rear cargo area button. The integrated keyheadtransmitter and instrument panel switch will operate the liftgateregardless of the position state of the Message Center. Refer to theMessage Center section in this chapter. To manually operate the liftgate:1. Disable the liftgate power function. Refer to the Message Center inthis chapter.2. Open and close the liftgate as you would a standard liftgate. Refer tothe Manual liftgate in this chapter.Note: In case of operation in extreme cold -40° F (-40° C), or onextreme inclines, manual operation of the liftgate is suggested. EDIT: Fuse 14 in the passenger compartment and 59 in the underhood Power Distribution Box are for the Power Liftgate, you could try pulling those also. akirby
I assume pulling the neg battery cable and/or the fuses if needed would do the trick, best guess ... The battery is already dead. The question is how to open the liftgate without power. I thought the button was mechanical but now that enigma-2 mentions it - it might be electrical only. In that case you'd probably have to put down the back seat and pull the rear cover up from inside. Won't be easy but should work. Or just buy new cables or a jumper box. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
First off, I have no way to verify that the statements made (e.g. battery totally drained) are assumptions or fact. None of us who have posted so far can. So that's why I said "guess", to keep the mind open to the possibilities. I have no doubt that hooking up a charger and/or buying new cables etc are good solutions, but I am looking to "empower" OP to try anything/everything. That's all. omar302
Never thought about it myself, but a very important issue. I also keep my charging cables next to the spare wheel. Just checked the Owners Manual & there seems to be a way, will need to see it in car to confirm.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Manual Latch Release for Power Liftgate To manually open the power liftgate, due to power latch failure, remove the latch access cover located on the lower center of the liftgate trim panel. Reach in and down on the right side of the latch and push down on the manual latch release lever. 2012 Edge Power Liftgate Operational Details.pdf
