chicagoslick
See link for Edge being identified as one of the top rated american cars based on Consumer Reports. Also of note the number of Fords present in the list. http://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/autos-passenger/highest-scoring-american-vehicles/ss-BBpSLBD
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
They must've bought their way in, right? No way Ford could have such a presence! NO ... WAY!!! LOL
mjonis
Without seeing the actual CR article, I'd question as to their methodology. Was this "overall" with several model years? (Last I checked in November, 2015, Consumer Reports was predicting the 2015 Edge would be below average quality as they didn't have enough data points yet). But I'd have to check/see their latest info (if they have it, but I'm not spending the $7 to see that they don't have it yet). The MSN article doesn't state which model year, just that it's a Ford Edge SEL with an overall score of 76 (based on what?)
chicagoslick
I could look it up as I have CR. I am encouraged by the information. I will post back later and add some screen shots for viewing...

freebird
I thought it was a Canadian car?
akirby
It's a global vehicle built in Canada by a company headquartered in the U.S. and exported to multiple continents.
cjh
I thought it was a Canadian car? If that's the case, then the Camry and Accord are American cars.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Doesn't Honda retain production capacity in Japan in case demand exceeds output from the American-based plants? Thought I read that just recently ...
mjonis
Please see thumbnails... thanks, however, I was wondering about the reliablity ratings. There's a chart missing (doesn't surprise me since 2016 haven't been out long enough) where it has little small circles filled in with red. Like a full red circle means "best" or something, half red circle means "good", circle with nothing in it, means average, and then there's the half black circle, and full black circle. when I had access, the 2015 model year just displayed a page saying they predicted lower than average quality/reliability but had insufficient data to post the charts. All Hat No Cattle
This is from the CR 2016 April Annual Auto Issue. Both the Edge and the F-150 were recommended, with the F-150 being the top truck. That is why I just picked up my 2016 Platinum. Now if they would start to get an Edge assortment of Titaniums at our dealers... Don't ask me why the same pic comes up twice.

chicagoslick
Some more info...There is a lengthy write-up on the Edge and a good portion of why it is rated so well has to do with the platform it shares, the Fusion. The Fusion has been nicely received by most people and the Edge benefits from that. CR is one of the best investments I make. I would suggest it to everyone. Well worth what it cost.
akirby
CR is one of the best investments I make. I would suggest it to everyone. Well worth what it cost. CR is just as biased as everyone else. They dinged Ford vehicles for MFT because you had to use the touch screen to do too many functions. Then they give the Tesla Model S a better than perfect score (103) when all it has for controls is a touch screen. A bit hypocritical don't you think?

Then they give the Tesla Model S a better than perfect score (103) when all it has for controls is a touch screen. A bit hypocritical don't you think? bingo! They did that a while back when I was comparing stereo receivers (dinged JVC or someone for something that they praised Sony for). Which is why I'm only concerned about the reliability data (which I would hope would come from some sort of statistics gathered--but maybe not). Although I do read the articles in full to see what/how they test. I used to enjoy watching the CNET on cars when it downloaded to my Tivo to see the tech packages. It is a little disturbing to see the overall reliability be an empty black circle, but I suppose it's better than the 2015 Edge (don't know). I'll have to compare to what the 2016 Kia sorento shows up. Looking forward to the NYC Auto Show to see what goodies are on their way for the competition. akirby
The reliability data comes from CR subscribers only, which makes me question some of the data. E.g. if you're a Honda owner and you bought your Honda because CR rated it tops - you might be reluctant to report a problem. Or vice versa. To me random samples like JD Power are better. chicagoslick
As with everything, you must use the information from CR as only part of all the information you will gather to make a decision on purchases. I find that they are right many more times than they are wrong. Also, the touch screen on the Tesla works great. Probably why they rate it highly. akirby
Their point had nothing to do with how well it worked - it was just that you had to take your eyes off the road to make a selection. Which is even worse in the Tesla. I don't personally have a problem with either one but I expect a professional publication to be a bit more consistent. chicagoslick
Ok, so the point in my original post was to shed some positive light on Ford, but somehow it has turned into "hate / distaste" for Consumer Reports. I have read the articles from C.R. and am basing my opinion on having done so. I doubt that’s true of everyone posting within this thread. As Ford owners (well maybe not all of us on this forum) we should be happy anytime good press comes out. Note: This will be my last post on this thread…
akirby
I used to be a subscriber. It would be hypocritical of us to lambaste CR for bad Ford reviews (when we felt it wasn't warranted) but celebrate CR when a good Ford review comes out. All Hat No Cattle
As someone who has subscribed to CR for over 40 years straight, I think some people are missing the point. If CR says that an American vehicle is good enough to "Recommend", you can be sure that it is REALLY good overall. But if you do not read CR regularly, you are simply not informed as to what they do. For instance, in the same April Auto Issue I mentioned above, out of 7 Infiniti models only 1 is recommended, while out of 14 Ford models, 5 are recommended. Buick? 4 out of 7 recommended. BMW ? 4 out of 13 recommended. And Land Rover? Zero for 5. Nissan? 3 out of 15. So CR is obviously prejudiced. But against whom?

Note: This will be my last post on this thread… Well I *am* glad to see that the 2016 Edge got better ratings/score than the 2015. That, to me, seems to indicate (so far) that the QA issues on the 2015 have been resolved.
