Were the 1.5 Gen Edge's With Push Button Start Only Available With 20" Wheels?

First, I'm probably not the only one to do this but I've always referred to the 2011-2014 Edge as the 1.5 Generation. Actually I think Ford should have considered it a second gen but that's not worth disputing.

Now for my actual question.... We're looking for a 2011-2014 'Edge Limited' to replace my wife's Murano and one feature she's really gotten used to and likes is push button start. All of the Limited's we find have the 20" wheels. Was that the only way to get push button start on the 1.5 gen's? I really have no interest in wheels that large for quite a few reasons.

Also I have a question about this forum in general. Why are the generation specific forums broken down to a separate forum for every model year? It seems it would be a much cleaner look & the discussions would be better if it was broken down by generations. So there could be a forum for 2007-2009, one for 2011-2014 & one for 2015+. Just a thought. That's how it is on every other model specific car forum I've ever viewed.

For the 1st question, the answer is no. The 20" wheels are a separate option than the 301A or 302A packages which included the push button start. But it seems the majority of optioned up (is that even term?) Edges are also optioned with 20" wheels.

For your information, most people never notice the difference in ride/noise between the 18" & 20" wheels on the Edge, some even go as far as recommending the 22" wheels on the Sport. I myself never tried them back to back to make my own judgment. Also, you might want to look at the Lincoln MKX, it is the luxury version of the Edge, but about 99% of mechanical parts are identical, so the parts & service are the same, many body parts are different, obviously, but when shopping used the price different might not be that much. Also the Lincoln has a 4 year /50K mile bumper to bumper & 6 year/70K mile powertrain warranties (1 year & 10-14K miles more than Ford).

akirby, I am referring to the 2011-2014 Edge & 2011-2015 MKX and I meant the mechanical parts such as Engine, Transmission, rest of the drivetrain, most of the suspension (if not all) and all brakes. In other words, parts that are usually a concern for repairs are the similar.

Thank you for that information. It seems any Limited with push button start is more than likely to also have the 20" wheels.

I don't doubt you on the ride quality not being that different but that was only one of the reasons I don't care for the 20" wheels. Mostly I personally just find them too flashy looking for our tastes & second the cost to replace the tires when they wear will be expensive. It's not that we would have a difficult time paying for replacement tires when they wear it's just kind of nuisance when it's an option we didn't want to begin with. I am aware of the Lincoln's although you don't see too many of those around here used for some reason.

My wifes 2011 Edge (Blueberry) has push button start and 18 inch wheels. Ya made me run outside to check. So it is possible to find one with 18 inch wheels.

As far as maintenance and other issues. Just check out what I have done with mine as I drive the wheels right off of it.
