akirby Posted March 14, 2016 Report Share Posted March 14, 2016 When the window shatters it's impossible to know for sure. Most likely cause is external damage or defective glass. It is possible for a particular vehicle to have a defect that puts too much pressure on the glass but that would show up with a much higher than normal defect rate on that particular vehicle. macbwt Posted March 19, 2016 Report Share Posted March 19, 2016 Some contribute the shattering of the rear window to stress, but others have also contributed it to the fact that when you get in the car and hit the defrost for the rear window the heat may be too rapid and the cold glass under the right conditions just shatters.
