Tmcharest
Recently purchased a 2013 Ford Edge SEL. The volume control button on the steering wheel works intermittently. However the other controls on that side work perfectly without and issues. Could it be a bad connection on the volume part? Priced a new one at $32 so worse come to worse I can buy another one. Didn't know if anyone else has had this issue or any possible fixes! Thanks!
enigma-2
It sounds to me more like a defective switch. It might either be corroded contact surface (an easy fix, take apart and clean with contact cleaner), or possibly a worn contact surface (if they made the contact surfaces out of a conductive paint instead of copper/brass).
Tmcharest
tonight I took it out and replaced it with a brand new one. I put it all back together and the volume switch still doesn't work. :/ anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? Maybe bad wiring or a loose connection? enigma-2
Possibly the slip ring. You might be able to isolate by trying the volume while turning the steering wheel. (My thinking is there maybe a bad spot on the slip ring or bad contact touching the ring which would show up as an intermittent connection when turning the wheel). Don't believe it's a ground as the ground is common between all the switches.
Tmcharest
Just tried turning the steering wheel while using the volume control like you suggested and still have no success. I'm at a loss as to what else it could possibly be.
