My 2007 Ford Edge was at the dealer today for a fuel tank replacement due to a recall. To replace it they have to unbolt the rear driveshaft. The car vibrated a lot (much more than usual) on the ride home. Is this normal? The bolts can be spun by finger. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That is not right! get that towed back and have them replace the seal now that the vibrations probably ruined it. the blue stuff is Loctite so that the bolts cant come loose. it should not be showing at all. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If I show the dealer this picture I don't think they'll believe me - although I did notice the blue falling off the bolt as they were tightened so it's clear they weren't previously tightened in the picture. Hopefully it's just the techs being messy, but it could be the rear pinion seal is going also. That is the connection at the rear of the driveshaft below the fuel tank, is that the RDU or PTU? You might want to put it on record with the dealership also if you talk to them about the bolts, but at least you have timestamped pics as backup.
