ludude1975
We purchased a used 2010 Edge SEL two weeks ago and it only came with one key. Is there any other options to adding a second key without paying $200 for a dealership to do it? There are no locksmiths anywhere around us that do transponder keys. winboy
I too would like to know. I bought my 2014 Edge today and it came with 2 keys.
akirby
You can't add a key unless you have 2 working keys already. The reason is security - if you could do it with just one key then so could a mechanic or a valet and you don't want that. So you have to take it to the dealer OR a locksmith that has Ford IDS access. You can get the key anywhere (ebay, etc.) so you'd only have to pay the dealer for programming. Shop around. Brucifer
I had one key with my '07. Saved about $30 by going to a full service locksmith over the dealer. Once done, bought the rest of the 4 I have off Ebay for about $20 a pop. If you do buy from a 3rd party to get your second key, make sure it's the right one for your car. Both dealer and locksmith may charge you for the programming even if it doesn't work. That's why I suggest getting the second key from a known source, then you can play with the rest of them. Search this forum (or just my posts) for possible key suppliers. You will want a third key in the very short future as insurance.
ludude1975
Thanks for reply. Can anyone tell me which key to buy that would work so I could cut down on the cost of the key? Dealers want $55 for programming the rest of the cost is the key.
Brucifer
YMMV: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/19370-2013-3-button-key-fob-unlock-button-stopped-working/ http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/19198-need-a-new-key-fob-help-please/ http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/19050-replacement-key-fob/
akirby
Beware of locksmiths who are simply cloning your existing key. It works to get 2 working keys but the vehicle thinks it's the same key and you won't be able to add your own key later.
