HTW750
Someone hit my mirror in a parking lot and cracked the housing on the drivers mirror. Ford wants $680 plus labor to install a replacement. Any suggestions? Can you replace just the housing? Other ideas?
akirby
Is it the lower housing or the upper cover? The cover is sold separately for less than $75 but I don't see a separate housing by itself on fordparts.com. You can always get a used one and just swap out the housing. pedro2u
This just happened to my 2011 Limited, so I've been doing research. Turns out it's a pretty simple DIY. Assuming it's the housing, it only comes as one piece but the most expensive one unpainted (every option like BLIS, heated, with memory) is just over $300 for a 2013 Limited. Use your model info to find yours. This is the lowest pricing I've found on the web for any Ford parts: http://stores.revolutionparts.com/parts.autonationfordwhitebearlake.com/auto-parts/2013/ford/edge/limited-trim/3-5l-v6-gas-engine/body-cat/outside-mirrors-scat I believe the painted portion of your mirror if not damaged, that piece is removable and can be installed on your new mirror. This video for an Explorer shows how to get that off and it should be the same. Anyone who'd done this, please chime in I'm about to order the new housing, my undamaged black cover will be getting reused hope this helps, since the dealer seems to be ridiculously overcharging you
enigma-2
Try ebay. Just checked and prices start at $150 for a complete, used mirror assy.
candurin
My wife broke my mirror backing into the garage a year or so ago. Picked up a used mirror on eBay and simply took my tuxedo black cover off and swapped it with the replacement mirror. All in was $80 (heated mirror) and 10 minutes of my time. pedro2u
I still haven't changed my mirror after 1 failed attempt in a salvage yard produced a mismarked (wrong year) mirror. I'm really hoping to save money by finding the cheapest housing I can find. Why pay all that money for the entire mirror assembly when my electronics are fine Does anyone know if the housing is the same regardless of the year (2011-2014), the model (Limited, SE, SEL, Sport), or the Options (BLIS, Heated, memory etc) I'm asking because I use car-part.com to search for parts in salvage yards (great site) and they all list these different mirror options (but are the housings the same?)
