Hoping for some of your feedback and what to look for or expect. Must: AWD, panoramic roof and LED front fogs, don't care about anything else. I read that MPG is nothing like sticker says. Request a carfax and oasis report. What else should I look for? Any negative reviews? Also I noticed most used Edge around here come from NY, any potential rust issues? I've been pleased with the purchase. I also have the panoramic roof and wouldn't have bought without it. Add to your list the backup camera. Not sure would package it's part of. You will learn to not want to be without it quickly. I have averaged 22.1 mpg consistently since owning the car. I bought it new as 13 leftover. It will likely be paired with the 3.6L (?) V6. Don't expect a rocket off the line. With the AWD, it is a modest accelerator, at best. All in all, I think you will enjoy the car. Lastly, buy the Tuxedo Black! Quick update: At 33K miles, my Edge sprang the dreaded PCU leak. I'm just glad I caught it while the car was under warranty. A poster later has the opinion that it has something to do with personal driving habits. I couldn't disagree more! My 2008, a AWD SEL, also had the same problem. Is every awd edge prone to get a leaking PTU at some point? I do 20k miles a year sometimes more and that has me concerned. Thanks for all the replies so far. I think it has more to do with "how" the car was driven, more so than how many miles it's seen. But, anything mechanical will fail eventually. For my 2 cents would urge to buy the Edge that has "all" the bells & whistles. The more goodies, the better. And most importantly, buy the best extended warranty you can afford. (No matter what car/brand/model you buy). A grand up front may just end up covering a serious problem later. So far I've used only about 70% of mine, just on "little" things, broken vacuum hose, stuff like that. Not the parts, it's the service labor. Cost would have been $454 out of my wallet! Other than that, the only other issues were the windshield washer hoses broke off the connections, and a new battery. So you paid $1500 up front and you've saved $500 - sounds like you're still $1K in the hole to me. Saying you should always buy an extended warranty is like saying you should gamble in Vegas every weekend. Long term the odds are never in your favor. If they were then Ford would stop selling them or raise the price. You can always make out on a vehicle (or two) just like you can win in Vegas once or twice. I have also seen the face of the service rep when I say I have an extended warranty. I have had to jump through more hoops than a circus lion to get things repaired. I have had repairs declined due to their technical wording on failure. A Leaking power steering is not a failure until the pump actually fails? Yep you get the point. Besides an extended warranty is no good if you drive 60-70K miles a year. Your experience may differ but these have been mine. Larry Posted January 31, 2016 Report Share Posted January 31, 2016 Hi, I can't advise you because my Edge doesn't have the options you want. I can tell you I've had no problems at all. My MPG is good far as I'm concerned. My trip meter resets itself every 10,000 miles so I can't say what the average is for total miles on the car. I would say about the same as the trip shows now. The trip meter now shows 7115 miles with average mpg 26.5. I have got high as 29 mpg driving on two lane roads at 60 mph or less. Interstate driving I get 27. Check my remarks under MPG forum. My car may be exceptional, I don't know ??? And he his warranty hasn't run out,... yet.Of course it's a gamble. So is buying life insurance. I bought an extended warranty on an Escort years ago, developed problems idling. Ran as it had a race cam in it, loping and very poor performance. Took it in and after a week they called in the area rep. Tried everything and finally figured out that the cam shaft had not been hardened properly, was "shredding" steel and changed to shape of the lobes. Total cost was more than if I would have paid for a new engine, but only cost me $100 plus I had the use of a loaner. All it takes is one problem to use up your initial investment. And on a used vehicle, there's a lot that can fail in a AWD car. Electronics everywhere, sensors on everything, computers controlling every aspect of the car, complicated drivetrains;there's just to much that can go wrong. It's cheaper to insure yourself if you can afford it. I can afford to pay for a big repair once in awhile but not to replace my house or car. It's great if you can't afford a repair bill so you finance it for a few bucks per month instead. But you're still losing money in the long run. As far as durability....maintain it and you should be alright. Things happen to all vehicles so if you get a warranty no issue if you don't get a warranty no issue there either just be ready to pay. Now they are too complex with the computer systems and inter-dependence on all the components working together to prevent issues. All I can do now is change fluids and filters, and read any codes the computer may show. At least, I am armed with the possible components or issues before going to my local Ford dealer. So the one I liked I passed on since it had an owner for a little over a year and then another for 5 months. Just didn't like that. Now I found another good one but I couldn't make it the dealer earlier in the week and when I finally got time they jacked up the price by $2500. What the heck!!!
