Chipster
Has anyone used Plasti Dip on their wheels? If so, how did it look and how long does it last before needing a re-spray? Is it possible to do a touch up re-spray on chipped areas or does it require a peel and re-coat? How durable is this stuff?
Nick Halstead
Not a dip fan but the more coats the better. I had a dip daily driver in El Paso when I was stationes their. Yes you can touch it up. Just spray right over the stuff. Mine I always had to touch up (front bumper) due to 3-5in locusts committing suicide on it. Dip holds up good to the elements. Its a nice winter protector but, im not a dip fan. I moved on from that fad.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
You can always look to Cellbine's posts about plastidippign the wheels. He did have to do some minor touchups from time to time, but overall held up very well. As Nick also stated, don't skimp on the number of coats applied. http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/11507-how-to-plasti-dip-your-rims-video-tutorial/
candurin
Mine has been on for almost 3 years. Still cleans and polishes up perfectly. I used 1 can (6 coats) per wheel. I've sprayed touch ups over top 18-24 month old plastic dip and it is not noticeable. The stuff blends/feathers nicely. enigma-2
Mine I always had to touch up (front bumper) due to 3-5in locusts committing suicide on it. A 5" locust? Holy sh☆☆! Can you imagine hitting a swarm at 60 mph an a motorcycle?
Nick Halstead
They would destroy my front end. The road to my house 25 miles long would be literally covered in them. Never seen anything like it till I moved to New Mexico
Dooley
I have had my wheels painted for about a year and 20,000 miles of driving with no issues. The grill and chrome strip around the windows is also done and have had some chipping on the grill, but touchup is easy and not a problem. Chipster
Dooley can you post a couple of pictures of your work? I am interested in seeing the grill and chrome strip rework. Which Plasi Dip color did you select to coat them?
