Is the CL3Z-19G364-A remote start kit able to upgrade to bi-directional (2 way)?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys pretty new here and to a 2013 Ford Edge. I am looking to get my gal a remote start for Christmas and been doing some looking around. Being quoted over $500 for a Viper and Compustar I would rather go the factory route if it fits her needs. Two biggest thing is to have a good range and most important be able to tell the car started from the remote in other words a 2 way remote.

I came across a kit CL3Z-19G364-A for only $200. I also am more than capable of installing it myself except for Ford hooking their computer to it at the end. My understanding is that this kit is the 100 series 1 way kit. Can the kit be upgraded to 2 way? It appears all i have to purchase is the Bi directional remote http://accessories.ford.com/electronics/remote-start/remote-control-system.html

and the maybe this upgrade antenna? The kit already comes with one of these but not sure if this one is bi directional or are they all the same and I only need the key fob? http://accessories.ford.com/electronics/remote-start/aerial-asy.html

Or is there a different route I can take? It looks like if I can go this way I would get it all for around $300. Thanks for the help.

That antenna is not an upgrade. That's the short range antenna that's already included with the kit you listed.

Yes, you can add the fob and you'll have bi-directional capability.

Don't forget the hood switch.

You can also save a few $$ if you buy the 200 series kit (which includes the two-way fob): BB5Z-19G364-C

Or you can get the version without the alarm/shock sensor; BT4Z-19G364-A

For that reason, I installed the remote access version. As long as your vehicle is parked in an area with cell reception you have infinite range.

I've started my car while it was at the philadelphia airport and I was in Berlin.

Recap, i was contacted yesterday about the kit i ordered and was told that part number is no longer used. I was setup with what i was told the same kit but being i wanted a 2 way remote i needed to buy another antenna. So for the kit and 1 2 way fob and extra antenna it cost $371 total instead of $330. Does this sound right about a second antenna?

Levittown Ford has the 200 series kit (bi-directional, long range with alarm) for $281 (BB5Z-19G364-C).

They also have the bi-directional, long range kit without the alarm sensor for $236 (BT4Z-19G364-A).

Again, both are the same kit, except the 200 series adds a security/shock sensor/alarm for $45 more.

Those will be your best bet as you will get the bi-directional fob and range that you want.
