First winter storm .....How did your 2015 Edge perform?

We just had a dump of 25 cm.......and!

 

I just have to say, the edge has totally blown me away in how well it handles snow and ice. Now keep in mind

I have Blizzak winter tires installed so that is a big factor too, but so does my torrent and the edge is 10 times better than

the torrent on ice and snow.

 

Just a few key points.....that stand out.

 

ABS seems to alternate in order to keep you very strait on the road when stopping.....very impressive.

The active AWD keeps you incredibly strait when accelerating and driving on glare ice.....people were spinning out of

control all over the place (8 cars in the ditch in a 10 km stretch) and the edge was dead stable and strait(even if I applied a bit of throttle).....by far the best most stable vehicle platform Ive ever driven.....even better than my brothers WRX with Ice Pike(studded) Hannkooks.

 

....all I can say is this is one incredible bonus to having this wonderful vehicle!

 

Id really like to hear about other peoples winter experience with their new edge......good or bad!

Wow now I cant wait for our first storm lol. I will actually be able to go out now instead of sitting and watching my infiniti g37s RWD collect snow in the driveway.

You wont be disappointed. The power and control that translate into traction on even the worst skating rink ice is beyond my expectations....like i said before, I thought things couldnt get any better than my brothers wrx......but I was wrong.....the edge was even better!....even kicking in the turbos results in a great linear acceleration with almost no deviation.

Your four BLIZZAK tires make a HUGE difference over the factory installed Michelin's.

 

I HATE Michelin tires! I picked up my Michelin shod S40 Volvo the week after I watched the 2005 US F-1 GP where six Bridgestone shod cars ran hot laps until Schummy won, Michael, not Ralf. The 14 Michelin shod cars hid in their garages because the F-1 Gods wouldn't change the track to slow the cars down.

Well I finally get my new Edge Sport on Monday and now I am shopping for new winter tires. I am seriously looking at Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV's,they have been getting great reviews and friends have been loving them. Only catch is no online ordering.

Nokian's are awesome but, trying to find the nokian in a 20" rim will be very tough.....I couldn't find any.....and thus why I went with the blizzaks DM-v2.

Winter of '07/'08 I went to buy a pair of Bridgestone Potenza G019's and a pair of Blizzaks for my S40 Volvo. Local Firestone/Bridgestone shop didn't have Blizzaks but had a pair of Firestone Winter Force tires. I was driving 600+ miles per week back then and the shop owner said the Winter Force was a better tire for me. Slightly harder tread rubber but identical tread design to a Blizzak, snow & slush traction same as Blizzaks, glare ice traction slightly less. Tread life LOTS longer than the Blizzaks. After about 11,000 miles in three months and 100+ inches of snow, my little Frt wheel drive Volvo got around great in up to 6-7 inch deep snow, then it ran out of ground clearance and my F-250 4wd was a better choice to drive to/from work that day, like the day we had about 6" when I left for work, and ten more inches while I was at work. Our plant closed at Noon, Son's plant closed at 10 am, his 2wd Lightning p/u was stuck where it sat so I made the 90 mile trip to get him from work. The next winter with four new Blizzaks on his truck he would have made it home O-K, but the 2-1/2 ft deep drift in our driveway would have stopped him like it did my F-250.

 

Members of my family have had over a half dozen sets of Blizzak's, no complaints on any of them. They aren't cheap, but towing bills, Driving too fast for conditions tickets, and body shop bills and increased insurance premiums aren't either. What's fun to watch is to take a Fox Body Mustang on snowy icy roads and barely be able to keep the back end of the car behind the front at ANY speed, then throw four BLIZZAK's on it and see how much faster you can go with complete control.

LOL I think you are missing a part

Yeah took it off to check where the condensation was coming from

 

My wife hates you.....guess snow and ice performance is a mute point....LOL

Mine hates me too. Must have patience to live here. Tourists/Horrible Traffic/Expensive can't have any of these in your "hate" column or Hawaii isn't the place for you.

I felt the Stock 20" Hankooks were ok....better than most all seasons Ive had.....but they still dont hold a candle to the Blizzaks.....Id say stopping distance from 50km/hr difference would be 20 feet....with the hankooks, the abs would kick in almost every intersection....then the next day when it was even icier the abs did not activate even once the whole day with the Blizzaks.

Nice.....best I could find installed here in Canada was 300 per tire(OK tire honored the 1010 price list price) ...including all the tax.....the blizzaks even at

300 a pop, were well worth the piece of mind that it gives my wife.....you know how the saying goes..." happy wife, happy life"!

from what Ive read about the two, the biggest difference is the density of the multi cell compound.....it sounds like the DM-V1 will wear quicker....there are minor changes in the block edge surface and 3D sipes.

 

Im sure the DM-v1 will be a great winter performer.
