Edge SEL AWD Brakes Touchy

My wife and I got a 2015 Edge SEL AWD. Love the thing. The only problem I've had with it is the brakes seem to be kind of touchy on first touch. Example, you have the cruise set and you touch the brake to turn off cruise, it will brake much harder than any other vehicle I have had. Is this just because it's brand new and the brakes need to be worn in or is that just the brakes on this vehicle?

I too think they are touchy compared to other cars I have driven. Takes some time to get used to. Over time I'm sure it'll be less touchy due to wear.

bingo...same here....brakes are super sensative\responsive....mind you thats not a bad thing as It stops on a dime.....my wife drives it 90% of the time and she (after7 months of driving it)is now use to it.

Our first Edge had real touchy brakes, slightest tap of the pedal almost required a HANS Device. It was a late January or early February build car. In the almost 12,000 miles we put on it the brakes got less touchy and Wife & I both got used to it. Our water leak replacement Edge, an August build SEL has much easier to modulate brakes.

just open the cap on your brake fluid reservoir... that'll let some air in and your brakes will be much softer....

just kidding, don't do that!!!!

In all seriousness I doubt there is much that can be done. They're electronically controlled and short of convincing Ford to change the braking system software, I don't know if there's much that can be done. Maybe if enough customers complain they'll address it in a future vehicle software update.

I love these brakes... My wife's car had very mushy brakes. I love the tight brakes with the immidate bite. Best stock brakes on an SUV I've driven.

Our 2015 has very touchy brakes, especially in wet weather. It will almost put you through the windshield. Hard to get used to. A worse problem is the rear door insides get covered with snow and road dirt. They have to be cleaned each time you take the car out in inclement weather. Afraid that the area will rust prematurely due to the road salt. Dealership said that it is a problem and you just have to have it cleaned off each time you use the car. I call this our sunny day car due to the brake problem in wet or humid weather and the leakage of road dirt and snow in the rear doors. Ford should supply us with an everyday car !

I wish. My 09 has soft, squishy brakes.

Ah .... NO! No, no, no. My 09 seals the cabin area tightly. That is NOT normal. Your car has a leak around the rear doors. I would start by checking the rubber weather seals. Try using a dollar bill, shut it in the car door and wiggle it around the door seal. It should not move easily. If it does, the seal has gaps and is letting in air and water.

I hate this too. Just gets really gross and full of little rock pebbles.

Got a new SEL FWD EDGE October of 2015. Thought maybe it was just me and the touchy brakes on a new car but feel you need a HANS device or be sure to keep your head near the head rest particularly in stop and go traffic. Hardly feel any back pressure against the foot, so to speak, in the first part of the brake pedal travel. It take a very light touch. It appears from other responses that this is a common problem/complaint.

Mine was built in February/March of 2015. Wonder if later built models have the same problem and what about those of you driving the 2016. Any braking complaints?

ā€‹We've had our 2016 Titanium for a couple months. Yes, I'd call the breaks touchy, but most of the time, i'm okay with them. Once in awhile, I get surprised and have to make a sudden stop..... and that really scares my wife, and any passengers...... but it definitely stops on a dime, and gives back change. Yes, a light touch on the pedal is what it takes.

We are at around 12,000 miles on the edge now and the brakes have not gotten any softer. My wife is fine with them because she drives it everyday and has gotten used to it braking hard. I however almost send us through the windshield every time I brake. My father in law also commented on how bad they are when he was taking it to get a car wash.
