anile_eight
My wife asked me what they were for and coming from a VW historically those are flash to pass and when I went to show her... the HID lights came on and the shutters moved up. I can't say I was expecting that. Is there anyway to change this so the inner headlights are flash to pass instead of the HID lights? I thought it was kind of odd. Again I know with VW I could go into the comupter with Vagcom and change any and all settings I wanted but from my research there is nothing like that for Ford.

Not sure if this exact option is available for Edge yet there are dozens of hidden options that could be activated on Fords. I'm studying it now, hopefully many bells and whistles available for foreign markets Fords are finally available for us as well.
akirby
Flash to pass just uses the high beams. There are no separate flash to pass lights. Just low beams and high beams.
Vadimus
HID versions have extra high beam coils in their H15 DRL bulbs.
Nick Halstead
The DRL has never been used on my car. Its like a wasted space
anile_eight
HID versions have extra high beam coils in their H15 DRL bulbs.Extra coil? Maybe I don't quite understand. From what I know they have the HID builb in the projector and I always thought that had 1 coil. Then the halogen light on the inners. So there is not a hidden way to activate these lights? redlancer
If you mean the high beam side of the bulb being used for the DRL then no. There's only 2 wires on the harness leading to the 3 terminals on the bulb from what I remember. What I thought about trying (though likely wouldn't be entirely legal) was wiring a relay from the high beam shutter circuit to activate the high beam coil in the DRL. I wasn't trying to make them DRL i was just wondering if they would ever work for flash to pass instead of having the HIDs come on for half a second if it was during the day whicih is not good for the HID bulb. I'd rather that happen to a much cheaper halogen bulb on the inners. Now that you mention the wiring to the high beams thats not a bad idea. More light the better:) haha. omar302
instead of having the HIDs come on for half a second if it was during the day whicih is not good for the HID bulb. Not sure if this also applies to the 2015, but 2011-2014 (& 2011-2015 Explorer) with projector headlights (high & low beams that work through moving shield) work this way: If it were a halogen bulb, pulling the turn signal stalk (flash to pass) during day light (headlights off) will cause the high beams (bulb+sheild) to turn on for as long as you pull the stalk. For HID bulbs, during daytime (headlights off), pulling the stalk (flash to pass) will cause the high beams (HID bulb+sheild) to turn on for about 1 second regardless of how long (or short) you pull the stalk. Seems to be kind of a protection method to let the HID bulb work for a specific amount of time. It is understandable to have a minimum run time for protection, but it is annoying because you cant keep the high beams on for a longer time (like a long flash to pass).
