I just purchased a 2010 Ford Edge and have noticed that when only on the highway, speeds over 60 and after I have been on the road for about 40 miles I am hearing a loud humming. This seems to come and go as far as driving straight forward. It gets more noticeable when turning to the right, turning off the ramp...If I turn left the noise goes away. In town, slower speeds, never hear it. Can this be a wheel bearing? or maybe a CV joint? Car has 94,000. Unsure of the history as far as repairs/replacements. macbwt Posted October 24, 2015 Report Share Posted October 24, 2015 Yep, and bet it is the right rear wheel bearing. Now all you need to do is verify which wheel it is and then replace it. Note: I say right rear because for some reason those are usually the first to go on the Edge. Then the right front after that. At least that is how it worked out for me. Can the Ford dealership tell before replacing which one it is? I bought the car used, have a Monday appointment and my 30 days runs out the 1st of Nov. macbwt Posted October 25, 2015 Report Share Posted October 25, 2015 (edited) Keep in mind I was just betting on which one was bad not knowing where the noise was coming from. Law of averages. If the noise seems to be from the front then it very well may be. Sometimes it can trick you as the noise can travel and appear to be from one area and actually be another issue in a different location. I bet the interior air filter in the glove box has not been changed and is completely clogged. I doubt the power steering has fluid has been changed, transmission fluid, brake fluid etc. Most dealers only change the engine oil and leave the rest to you. The Ford dealership wanted $350. I purchased an OEM for $130 and paid my repair shop $90 to install it, so saved $220. Fluids, good point. The dealer changed the oil and tranny fluids, and it's obvious in the color. Next is get the rear and transaxles done. Thanks to all that put me in the right direction, I find this forum interesting reading, and a plus to maintaining my new ride. So checked the p/s fluid to find it a little low, swapped it out with some fresh mercon lv. Good 2 go for the winter coming in soon. Again, thanks for every ones help. For the 2010: Transmission Fluid: Mercon LV Power Steering Fluid: Mercon V Does the reservoir cap say to put in Mercon LV for power steering, by any chance? In the video you sent me, it shows LV being used. I talked to the Ford dealer, said it shouldn't be a problem. So my bad to use the video sent, I should have compared, done a little more homework before I purchased the LV. I have not put more than 10 miles or so on the vehicle, so on my way to p/u some V.....
