DunePearlEdge
Does the TPS need to be replaced when getting new tires? My sensors are at least 50k miles and 4 years old. Is the sensor typically replaced or just the battery?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The battery is integral to the sensor, so you'd have to replace the sensor. A tire shop can tell you if they expect the sensors have enough life left. But the typical life of the battery is between 5-7 years. I didn't have them replaced on my Edge when I recently had the tires done, will see what happens At worst they will have to dismount the tires and put in new sensors! macbwt
Good thing I traded my orange crush. Putting new TPMS sensors in would have been the final straw.
boosted edge
My 2008 Edge has 138000 miles on it. I am getting ready for the fourth set of tires on it, and the TPMS are the originals and are working fine! I do want a 2016 Edge before that time, hopefully! DunePearlEdge
It sounds like they last longer than I expected. I called local tire shops and they charge $60-80 per wheel for new units as the battery is integrated. Are the units on a 2007 band type or the air inlet type? macbwt
I am guessing mileage has no effect on them because I never had an issue on my 2008.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Band type. I think the stem type went into production in 2011, MAYBE 2010. As long as the manufacturer warrants it for the year/model, it doesn't really matter. It sounds like they last longer than I expected. Waldo
TPMS sensors only send out signals once every 2 minutes, not continuously, so the batteries will last a long time.
macbwt
I can confirm in my last video that they are attached to the valve stems for the 2011 and most likely up. Band type.
