bce
Last night, for some strange reason, I logged on to the ford owner site to see if there was a new version for my Sync. Found out there was (and a little bit of googling found out it was released this weekend). I installed it without any problem. They managed to keep my desitinations this time (but lost the wallpapers), but you have to re-pair your phones with system. Only other thing I noticed is that when I switch to bluetooth audio it not gives the same legal warning that the nav system does. Release notes are: EA5T-14D544-ADABOUT THE LATEST UPDATE The new software update for SYNC® with MyFord Touch® systems includes all the improvements from previous updates, plus additional benefits such as: Siri® Eyes Free*: Now iPhone users can use Siri® Eyes Free with SYNC® with MyFord Touch®. With simple voice commands, SYNC® with MyFord Touch® enables you to operate the iPhone and SYNC® together. Siri® Eyes Free can be activated by pressing and holding the voice button for at least 3 seconds. Secure, simple phone pairing: Phone pairing is now easier. Automatic reconnection: If your phone disconnects, SYNC® with MyFord Touch® will automatically reconnect it. Easier entry of destinations for China: Now SYNC® with MyFord Touch® allows for easier entry of destinations. *Feature requires compatible hardware.

Waldo
There's even an update available for my 2010 MKT (finally). It's actually the first update available for that vehicle since it was built. But don't get too excited, because clearly Ford only cars about Sync III... drpepper
I downloaded and installed Tested pressing steering wheel button to activate Siri & it did But I did notice on the install reboot the ambient light not retained Any insights on if this is case going forward? Are the phone ringers, Text ringers, ambient lighting, all not retained after the system reboots especially at that magical 20 hour mark? drpepper
Had that reboot several days ago, no settings were reset. Sorry to be a 1 off of the 3.8 but in case this issue is still present on 3.8... To help my dealer trouble shoot... to clarify- you had an ambient color other than default white( or ice blue), a phone ringer other than "phone connected ringer" and a text ringer other than the default and if you press setting cog wheel it didn't automatically take you to the clock but the last menu you were on- how exactly did the vehicle reboot? own own? with reboot app? & the listing items above did not reset back to white, & phone connected ringer? What gave it away that the system rebooted? The on screen message? Confirming you have a Edge MFT- what version- are you v 3.6 or 3.7? drpepper
Showing available to download for my 2011 MKX. since you have make model that I do (2011 MKX)...have you had the reboot in background after ~20 hours & loose the ambient light setting ( back to white) & phone ringer change (back to phone ringer) vs say text to speech? teknowiz
Haven't applied the update yet, will tonight or tomorrow. Currently the ambient light setting does revert on its own even after Ford TSB fix applied so will see if new version fixes that. As for phone ringer, I have not changed that setting so unable to comment on if that is an issue.

What gave it away that the system rebooted? The on screen message? Confirming you have a Edge MFT- what version- are you v 3.6 or 3.7? My story was short - one sunny day I've started the engine and noticed that MFT screen is black. I waited for like 2 minutes, and saw SYNC then "periodic maintenance" screens. Being aware about ambient lighting issue I've checked mine - it remained the same purple color (choice was my daughter's). Cannot 100% confirm if sms/call remained the same though. My 2015 Edge came with v3.7 already.

Yeah, the message is pretty simple: We found a problem with 3.7 on some vehicles after it was initially released so we pulled it for those vehicles. Now it's fixed in 3.8. Just because 3.7 could be installed and "appeared" to work initially doesn't mean there would not have been problems later - problems significant enough for them to pull the update. But don't let simple logic get in the way of your conspiracy theories.
drpepper
If what you say is what a CSM or an FSE or an official at Ford said then we wouldn't have a problem but your just conjecturing and Ford did not answer any questions And version 3.8 added different functionality than 3.7 so not as simplistic as you lay out
drpepper
Obviously lose of settings issue happens to many people and many other people don't even know if it does occur because they don't change anything from default or track it and the lack of Ford response is the issue The FSE said one thing the CSM said another & the ford reps here haven't clarified. And then there's the issue of send to Sync destinations that has gone unanswered in the other thread with the MapQuest issue As stated before just want simplicity and a vehicle that works

This is software 101 and I've been doing it for 29 years. I'm telling you there was some incompatibility in 3.7 in some vehicles. That incompatibility no longer exists in 3.8. And nobody from Ford is going to tell you the exact reasons just like Microsoft isn't going to tell you the exact reason why they pulled a certain feature from Windows 10 or why it's not compatible with a certain piece of hardware. tamugrad2013
So I haven't updated yet but I will this weekend. I am kinda hoping that this update will magically get my backup camera guidelines to come back as they disappeared on the 3rd of October. If so I can cancel my dealership visit on the 24th, but I feel like I will still end of having to drop the old gal off.
xK317Hx
Tired the update...looked like it started just fine, went in the house came back out an now I have a black screen. No response from touch screen, no response from the USB ports. no ambient lighting no console lighting period. No audio function either. USB stick isn't flashing. Looks like I will be swinging by the Ford dealer in the morning. Great- Edited October 6, 2015 by xK317Hx
