wlepse
I know this is a Ford forum but figured car guys and girls really just appreciate the marvel of machinery. Anyone a couple weeks ago I got an email from Audi inviting me to this event at the Monticello Motor Club and the best part it was free. Well maybe the best part was that they let me take an RS5 & an R8 out on the track in the rain. Holy sh!t was it amazing! Nothing like being able to do over 100mph in the rain. The grip was phenomenal, I can't even put words to describe it. I never thought I would be into these driving events but now I can't wait to go to another. By the way if anyone ever gets the chance to go to something at Monticello Motor Club go! It might be the only time you get to go, they gave me membership info. Family membership initiation fee is 175k and like 20k a year dues. Absolutely stunning track though. So has anyone else done something like this and what were your thoughts?
PrinzII
The closest for me was the BMW Drive for the Cure. I literally got to drive almost every BMW during the years they held it.
wlepse
I left out the less exciting part of the day where they had a small autocross course where you got to test an A3 vs 328 and a CLA250 back to back then jumped in an A6 vs 535 vs C350 I think. It was fun but nothing like pushing an RS5 or R8 around a road course. I think one of the most amazing things was just the sound....when you went full throttle is was impossible not to smile.
akirby
I've driven a R8 on a road course (with an instructor of course) via thextremexperience.com . Also drove a Porsche 911 Turbo twice and a Ferrari 458 Italia, but my favorite is the 911 GT3. Being able to drive these cars at speed on a real racetrack is amazing. Hit around 110 on the front straight but that wasn't the exciting part - taking 90 degree corners at 50 mph and nailing the throttle was amazing. With discounts it costs anywhere from $200 - $300 including insurance. Here is the Ferrari - listen to the engine. And it's fully automatic - no paddle use. And the 911 GT3 - not quite as much power as the Ferrari but that grip.......like a scalpel.....
wlepse
Nice...I might have to start looking for things like this. At this event they paired you up and you followed the instructor around the track which I thought was pretty ballsy. They had no idea what level any of us were at and just told us to hang with them. We did our best and had a blast doing it.
