krusej23
So my wife and I just leased a 2015 Edge for her and we wanted remote start so the dealership through that in on the deal for free. The Edge was brought down from Minnesota last night and now the salesman is saying that the remote start on the 2015 Edge isn't out yet so it will be about 30 days before we can get that installed. Is that true? How can the remote start not be available for the 2015 Edge when the 2016 is almost out? Also told him to check on the TSB for the flooding and the recall for the steering. Anything else I should have him check on? Thanks!
WingNut
Remote Start will require a certain module they'll need to order and install. If it is backordered, then there isn't much you can do. What I would do is ask them exactly what is not available. What parts are required and what parts are not available? And then when they estimate they'll get those parts. THEN you call another dealer and ask to order the parts and see what they say....or check with the Parts guy on this site and he'll give you the truth. What I hate about dealers is they will lie to you in order to get you in the car and out the door. Then apologize when they can't deliver the remote start within 30 days. I had a sales guy do just this but I kept calling him out on each and every part/option he said "Was not available for a month" or something like that. akirby
Dealer added remote start is slightly different than installing it at the factory. It's possible the dealer add option isn't out yet. Or your dealer could be feeding you a line. Just call another dealer and ask if they have the add-on remote start available and that will tell you for sure.
Vadimus
Do you mean remote start from the phone app? Remote start from the fob does exist and it is standard at least for Titanium and Sport

Dealer installed will require a separate FOB on the keychain.

krusej23
We got the SEL. I was meaning the remote start fob key, not the app. They seriously can't switch me to one fob that has the remote start and locking options? That's going to make me angry. When I was looking at the SEL, they were going to add on the remote start and the only option was a separate FOB unfortunately.
akirby
That's why you do your own research and don't listen to the dealer when they say "oh we can add that!"

He'll just get another FOB. My dealer told me they could add roof rails to the SEL that didn't have factory rails. True for 2014....not true for 2015. I found this out by researching it myself and then called him back furious.
krusej23
The problem is we don't want to pay for the technology or 201a packages. The technology package gives you remote start but it also requires 201a. That's $3500. I guess the wife will have to deal with an extra fob. If she's not happy with that, then I will tell them to find a different Edge with the specs that we wanted and not add something on.
Vadimus
My dealer told me they could add roof rails to the SEL that didn't have factory rails. True for 2014....not true for 2015. I found this out by researching it myself and then called him back furious. Not a surprise at all. I was told rear inflatable seatbelts were part of 401A package on my Sport, of course they are a separate option, obviously factory-installed. Sales guys know very little about things they sell... True. Just found this out today. The manager emailed Ford about it. The cross bars offered only fit factory roof rails and they don't have accessory ones that work yet. WingNut
Not a surprise at all. I was told rear inflatable seatbelts were part of 401A package on my Sport, of course they are a separate option, obviously factory-installed. Sales guys know very little about things they sell... The one good thing is my salesguy called me after hours from his personal phone and said: "Listen man I know you are pissed, but we are both learning here. The 15s have only been on the lots for a week or so. I figure since I have no problems doing these things with most of our vehicles, Ford wouldn't change it up. But they did. So going forward I won't be telling people they can pop on rails for a few hundred bucks." The dude was genuine. He called me the next day with another vehicle option that I was considering. Then said "Again, I'm learning here and I see these are residualizing real nice so I can actually get you in to a Sport with everything you want (Minus the roof rails which was a non issue at that point) for the same lease payment/terms.)." SOLD So I went from grabbing a 2014 that was discounted and optioned nice (Limited) to a 2015 SEL that didn't have many bells and whistles to a 2015 SEL with some real nice options to a 2015 Sport AWD with a lot of nice stuff for all around the same lease payment. A lot of stress through during the process. I give the guy a lot of credit for continuing to work with me because I walked a few times. The cross bars offered only fit factory roof rails and they don't have accessory ones that work yet. I ended up going with the Yakima Q Towers and crossbars for mine. Just under $300. And they pop on and off within 5 minutes so I don't leave it on all the time. Just when I need them. I like the clean look of the Sport without rails.

krusej23
Wife says it's ok because she will lock the keys in the car or just keep them in her purse since it has the push start on it. Everything is okay until I have to carry the keys around.
krusej23
Got the car tonight and found out they are putting on an aftermarket remote start that reaches 3,000 feet instead of 300 feet that the Ford one does. Also got him to throw in 2 free oil changes and tire rotations for free by "accidentally" mentioning that the Chevy dealership was going to do that on the Equinox we were looking at.. Redbow
My 2013 Chevy Malibu had remote start. I did not like it. The only thing it did was start the engine. Did not start the heater or A/C or anything else. So what's the use? Maybe Ford's remote start works differently? Burke

It auto heats or cools the cabin depending on outside weather, and even pre-heats the driver's seat (not sure about other seats, it is not cold enough yet to feel a big difference). And there is also a setting where you can set it to auto cool/heat depending on temp or go with your last climate control setting. It also turns on the seat cooler if you have that option when it is hot out. I look forward to the winter to have remote start again. Really missed it in my Mustang.
