d0minicano
Hello everyone first time posting here and wanted to know if anyone installed HID lights on non HID model 2015 Edge. I wanted to stick to 4500K or 5000K but it seems that our system is 55 Watt so I am limited to 4300K and 6000K. so my question is does our car need CanBUS type system and could I downgrade from 55W to 35W this way I can get 4.5K or 5K bulbs. squeaky
I am curious too how/if this could be done?
Corey McComsey
Same here. HIDs were one of the only things in the 401A package that I wanted. Couldn't justify $3700 for HIDs.
Corey McComsey
Looks like there are conversion kits out there that are pretty inexpensive...about 2x of halogen replacements. Wonder if a 4000K halogen will get close to color matching the day time running lamps.
d0minicano
4000k is below the already yellow 4300k, 5000k is closer to day time with little amounts of blue. Edited September 17, 2015 by d0minicano
cmillz1331
I don't have a 2015 but I went on TRS and put in info for a 2015 Edge w/o stock HID and this is what I got...9006 bulbs...I can testify that these products are amazing, very high quality (well worth the money) and customer service is great too. Link below is to 9006 4500K bulbs with 50W ballast w/ Canbus harness. I don't know about the newer Edges but you can get away with a 35W system if you use wiring harness as well. That's the setup I have in my 2008 and I haven't had any problems since going with TRS products. Ā http://www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems/morimoto-elite-hid-system-9006.html?carDisplay=2015+Ford+Edge&preselect=CANBUS-9006%2CXB-BALLAST-55%2CXB2-9006-43#.VfsuqrSh0rc Ā Hope you guys find what you're looking for.
Corey McComsey
Thanks for the link and the review. Did you go with Canbus and how difficult was the installation? This looks like a very good kit and reasonably priced. One thing that I'm still not sure is whether I should get the 4500k, which is factory heat range, or the 5500K bulbs. I want something that matches the Day Time LEDs the best. Anyone have any suggestions?

foxxyfox
Bahhhh spent 3 hours troubleshooting the Morimoto kit only to find out that the wire that connects the HID bulb to to the AMP(Igniter?) is messed up Ā Grrr..... Ā Ā Here's the one with the working cable, super bright Ā Ā Oh yeah the Anti-Flicker Capcitor Link isn't needed, just use the relays. foxxyfox
The Retrofit Source send me 2 new cables under warranty and I was able to finish the install. I'll post pics of amp/capacitor location and wire routing tomorrow when there's daylight. These things are super awesome. I hope they aren't too bright Edited October 10, 2015 by foxxyfox

foxxyfox
Tools and material used: Used to hold the ballast Ā Used to hold the cable that will run towards the passenger side, will be mounted on the firewall. I'd rather use screws but will see how these hold up Ā Screwdriver 8mm socket: for battery hold down and to move coolant reservoir tank 10mm socket for battery terminal 11mm socket for the ground on the frame small zip ties Ā Pictures: Ā 5500k 50w bulbs. There's a slight incline where the gravel meets the road. image looks pretty close to what it actual looked like. Ā Nothing behind that plastic piece so it was a good place to attach the relay box and ballast. Power is attached directly to the battery, the cable is hidden by the red plastic cover. Ā Driver side Ā This cable powers the passenger side ballast. I used plastic mounting pads hopefully the adhesive lasts if not will have to use screws to hold the cable in place. Ā Same cable Ā keep going... Ā Hooray, we made it to the passenger side. The cable barely made it there, had me worried. Ā Summary: After 30 minutes of night time driving I think the 50w HID ballast is a tad too bright and should have opted for the 35w ballast. The projectors' cutoff is excellent and I don't think I'll be blinding drivers. Edited October 10, 2015 by foxxyfox
Corey McComsey
Nice write up and pics. If you take out the 3hrs of troubleshooting the harness how long did it take to install? I plan on doing this same conversion in the next couple of weeks. Just to confirm...you only did the low beams, correct?
foxxyfox
It took me about 1hr 30mins. The 3.5 is such a fatty and takes up so much space under the hood. I imagine with the other engine layouts you can have a couple more inches of breathing room. Ā Yes only low beams. For the high beams (which are also the daytime driving lights) i installed some Sylvania zXes which look a lot nicer than stock ones during the day. foxxyfox
Ordered some 9006 Extension Cords which add 2 feet of cabling this way I don't have to worry about the cable in the back of the engine near the firewall, now I can just route the cable through the front.
foxxyfox
Blah, I took out the HIDs! 5500k 50w is way too bright and was giving me eye fatigue, I do not recommend the 50w ballast. Also this morning just 25 minutes into my commute one of the HIDs go out, I suspect it's the cable that connects the bulb to the igniter (the other one this time). Ā I went back with Sylvania zXe. What a waste of time, lesson learned.
Corey McComsey
Sorry to hear...which makes me leery of doing the swap now. I'm not so much concerned about the brightness but more of a matching color to the LEDs. How well do the zXes match?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Can you return the kit/get a refund, foxxy? DTBL/Drivebright kit might be the way to go if they work for the 2015.
foxxyfox
I don't think so, they say only unopened stuff can be returned. Oh well.. Edited November 3, 2015 by foxxyfox
