shadybiz11
I have a cylinder 4 misfire on my wife's 2009 edge. 110,000k miles. I swapped coils between #4 & #5, no change in error code. I swapped plugs between #4 & #5, no change in error code. I put heet in the gas, thinking I might have water in the gas no change I put BG 44K fuel injector cleaner in the tank and let it run for an hour, still have the cylinder #4 misfire The plugs looked good. Any suggestions?
autom8r
shadybiz: Is this your first set of plugs? You need to be careful that the gap isn't too big on any of the plugs otherwise you'll cook the ECM. Hopefully your ECM is still intact. At 110k it's time to replace all the plugs with new and then scan for error codes again. This website has detailed instructions on how to do that. If the plugs are newer, then my money's on the ECM. But wait! The #4 injector may be fouled too! Take a mechanic's stethoscope put it on the injector and listen for the clicking noise. Compare what you hear on #4 with cylinders #5 and #6. Bad/clogged injectors also cause misfires. Good luck!
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Seems like the only thing you didn't mention is the plug gap, which as autom8r said, might be too large now. And it takes more than an hour for FI cleaners to work. It takes at least a tankful in a "mild" situation, to several tankfuls in a "bad" situation. Try to use top tier fuel during this process, so that the cleaner is completely devoted to improving the fuel system/engine instead of fighting lower grade gasoline deficiencies.
macbwt
Agree the injector was the only thing not checked. Rule that out then the more expensive things come into play. A good engine scanner would be able to manipulate the injectors for testing to ensure they are operational. Any suggestions? Not to insult you or anything, but what cylinder do you think is cylinder #4 on your engine? You may have swapped the wrong plugs if you got your cylinders wrong, hence why the engine is till misfiring.
