AC fan being a pain

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, first post! I have a 2010 Edge SEL that I bought around the end of last year. A few months ago we noticed the AC just wasn't blowing like it used to. It was still cold and all, just wasn't putting out much. Took down the glove box and realized the previous owner had a napkin get sucked back to where it covered the intake. Now the fan sometimes blows on full, but sometimes doesn't (where 4 feels like 2). I had a sub installed professionally and I'm wondering if maybe the wires got knocked loose or something, or if this is a common problem. ALSO, over the last week or two the radio has started randomly shutting itself off without anybody touching it. Aaaand go!

Possible that there is debris stuck in the fan causing the problem, or that the fan/motor is now in need of replacement. Was there a cabin air filter atop it at all (screen or an actual filter)? A new cabin air filter is recommended anyway.

No clue on the radio issue. Was your sub grounded properly? Any noise from the system, are the volumes as expected? Tried disconnecting/powering off the sub to check?

Sometimes (probably not in this case) all types of electrical issues crop up when the battery is on its' last legs. So I'd have it checked (with a modern instrument), check all the terminals, grounds/connections to the battery. I have had times when after servicing or electronics installation, the cables have worked loose and had to be re-tightened.

It has a little blue colored foam filter for the cabin, and it was pretty clean the last time I was in there (a couple weeks ago).

There's no noise from the sub, everything was installed properly as far as that goes. I just wonder if they knocked a harness loose or something?

I don't know the age of the battery, so I can only assume it's 6 years old. Testing it is a very good idea, thanks

That foam filter is definitely not OEM. May be just a DIY thing someone put it there. Does it have a frame around it or is it just foam? I'd remove it and put in a cabin filter made for the Edge. They are pleated, and some are additionally charcoal impregnated for odor control.

We're about to go get food, I'll snap a picture of it
