jstall7543
Hey guys I know it would cost more money to do a oem style hid setup but after reading about problem after problem with aftermarket hid kits I've been considering it. Any opinions on this? You think ford chose the osram blast for the limited edeition edge for a reason? I like the way they screw right on the sport model housings too, it's a super clean install. jstall7543
It looks like ford uses these ballist ' s on just about everything.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
If you don't already have an HID setup, the best route currently is to go with DTBL/drivebright's product offering. You can certainly have success with other aftermarket suppliers, but with a bit more risk.
fishx65
Just over 3 years with a DDM 35 watt kit and I've lost one balast which they replaced under warranty. Original bulbs are still fine but I did end up ordering another kit so I could carry spares. $80.00 for two kits is a pretty good deal. Factory OEM is definitely the way to go for years of trouble free operation but I think ya gotta kick out some big green-backs initially. jstall7543
I'm driving 210 miles a week at nigh so I still hesitate to buy anything but oem. I need something that will hopefully work at all times other than normal bulb changes. I was going to buy the Morimoto elite 55w but I've recently read of several problems with those kits. It's hard to tell if these problems still exist... Ā Can anyone recommend the best halogen bulb in the 5000k range to hold me over till I decide on the perfect hid kit lol. TheWizard
There is no such thing as a good halogen bulb that produces 5000K light. Halogen bulbs always produce light in the 3200K range. Bulbs that claim to be 5000K halogen are actually ordinary bulbs with blue tinted glass to filter out the yellow portion of the light color. Unfortunately, the yellow range is where a good portion of the bulb's lumens (brightness) are produced. So any bulb that has such a blue tint will produce less (sometimes far less) overall light output than the same bulb with clear glass. Some manufacturers change the filament design to increase the light output in order to compensate for the filtering of the blue tinted glass but that significantly shortens the life of the bulb. Ā The above information applies to both standard iodine-cycle halogen bulbs as well as halogen infrared reflective (HIR) bulbs although HIR bulbs inherently produce more light for the same amount of power input.
