GNERGY
When you take your Edge to the dealer for service. I have only put 3000 miles on my 13 Edge since I bought it as a Ford Certified used vehicle in Dec. of 14. I took it in ( to a different dealership closer to where I live ) ( San Tan Ford ) for them to activate the remote start I installed, cut 2 keys, disable my day time running lights and change my oil and filter. I get this print out that says my engine coolant is diluted and discolored and in poor condition and needs replaced. My brake fluid is discolored and needs replaced. My power steering fluid is discolored and needs replaced. My transmission fluid is discolored and needs replaced. My Edge just has 39,051 miles on it. Certified Technician C. Suprak was the name on my inspection report, it would only cost $580.00 give or take a few $ I know in the waiting room where I was sitting were a bunch of retired age gentleman, ( hacking and coughing and getting in their daily naps ) that maybe they associated me with them as maybe having some extra $$$ sitting around waiting to be spent, but NOT the case. So does this happen to you guys every time you take your Edge in for service??? Do they do this every time hoping you will eventually just give in. Just so you know this is the first Ford I have ever owned. Tarey
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Run, don't walk from San Tan Ford. There are better dealerships out there. BTW, as a matter of routine, 3yr/36,000 mile intervals still hold for drain & fills: brake fluid, trans fluid, power steering fluid, etc. IF you want to be proactive. Not absoutely necessary, but a good idea. All fluids discolor over time. But do they smell burnt, is there debris in the fluid, ... That's what you need to watch out for, and check on a regular basis. And yes, I have gotten the "brake fluid is dirty, throttle body is dirty, etc." routine before. Maybe the dealership hopes the owner won't question them on it. Edited August 20, 2015 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
akirby
Not common but there are dealerships like that who try to milk you for stuff like that. Run away and find a better dealer that isn't trying to rip you off. Or just say no up front.
PaulSchott
Don't forget to have them change the headlight fluid
enigma-2
Time before last took my MKX in for an oIL change. Asst service manager ran over and started to check my car over. "Tires ok, wiper blades ok, oh, oh wait, your rear window wiper is worn out. We should put a new one on." I then informed him in a rather loud voice that I had replaced it only a month earlier! That stopped his little game and had no problems after that. All dealers try to sell their product. But I would get a second opinion as this seems a little suspicious. enigma-2
Chuckel. It's off topic, but this reminded me of something. I was in the Marine air wing and when new guys reported for duty who had an attitude, I would send them out to other sqadrons to pick up a 5 gallon pail of "rotor wash" or a few feet of "flight line". Lost one guy for three days.
macbwt
Yep new boiler tech in the Navy was always sent to supply to get a set of Fallopian tubes for the boiler. LOL
TheWizard
In our dealership (many years ago) it was a Volkswagon Beetle thermostat (air cooled engine) or a drive shaft balancer. BTW OP, unless your Edge came from Canada, it doesn't have DRLs to be disabled.
GNERGY
My headlights came on when I would put it in gear. I had them turn that feature off because I installed V-LED headlights. Tarey
TheWizard
That's interesting. Is it possible you got a vehicle that was from the Canadian market? Or perhaps the previous owner had the DRL option turned on after purchase? Because DRLs were not even an option on a '13 Edge in the US except for fleet vehicles. Could it have been a fleet vehicle? akirby
Probably fleet.

Just means it was sold to a business rather than an individual - most likely either a rental car or government fleet vehicle.
GNERGY
OH, OK Cool, thanks, I didn't know that. They kept it in really good shape. I was doing some reading and I am going to change all the fluids myself, as per the Ford Technician Makuloco that does all the Youtube videos. He says the more fequent on the transmission the better. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Ford transmissions can be sturdy IF fluid changes are done regularly. The 150K change interval may not actually refer to a new transmission after all.
ClosetotheEdge
I drained 4 quarts from our Edge when we first got it. I put in L:ubegard trans fluid. I will change out 4 quarts around every 30K.
Ohsix
In our dealership (many years ago) it was a Volkswagon Beetle thermostat (air cooled engine) or a drive shaft balancer. BTW OP, unless your Edge came from Canada, it doesn't have DRLs to be disabled. VW air cool engines do have a thermostat which you can adjust on the engine right side bolt to the block
TheWizard
Interesting! I didn't know that... neither did any of the mechanics I worked with. Of course that was a very long time ago and we only worked on domestic vehicles. (To give you an idea of how long ago... it was an American Motors dealership). What did the thermostat do? Open an air door or something?
