GT500R
Has anyone figured out how to make the front passenger "cigarette lighter" power source ignition only powered? My VW turns off power once the ignition is turned off and it's a great feature since I don't have to constantly plug in my radar detector in and out. WingNut
I wasn't aware that it provided uninterrupted power. This weekend my Edge was off and I needed to charge my phone. So I plugged in my car charger to the 12v port on the passenger side, and there was no power. That I remember*. So I ended up just using one of my portable chargers. *Note: I was under the influence of about a 12 pack at that point. So take it for what it's worth. Note: If used when the vehicle is not running, the battery will discharge. There may be insufficient power to restart your vehicle. <- directly from user manual
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The manual certainly implies the power point is always on. Run the vehicle for full capacity use of thepower point. To prevent the battery fromdischarging accidentally:• Do not use the power point longer thannecessary when the vehicle is notrunning.• Do not leave devices plugged inovernight or when you park your vehiclefor extended periods. akirby
It seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle and year to year as to whether certain power points are always on or not.
WingNut
It seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle and year to year as to whether certain power points are always on or not. Correct. Because I just went out there again, opened up my passenger door, plugged in my charger, and no power. I didn't turn the car on at all.

WTF is going on here?! Does it shut off after a certain amount of time? Anyone know what the logic is here?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
All I know is there is generally a 10 minute "courtesy" power ON after engine is turned off unless (driver?) door is opened before that time is up. There is also, at least on 2011 & newer, a battery saver timeout of 45 minutes (or less if the battery level is detected to be at threshhold before that). Logic is primarily to allow accessories to be run without using engine power, such as traveling with passengers, running a short errand, vacuuming the interior etc.
akirby
It's called delayed accessory power and it stays on for 10 minutes or until you open the door.
DBeth
I've been using the 12V power port in the middle armrest and have noticed no power in it until I turn the car on as well.
GT500R
It's called delayed accessory power and it stays on for 10 minutes or until you open the door. Can you explain how the feature works step by step? I've been using the 12V power port in the middle armrest and have noticed no power in it until I turn the car on as well. Stayed on after I shut the car off, locked, and came back 25 minutes later.....
akirby
After you shut off the engine, the radio, windows, etc. still operate for 10 minutes or until you open a door.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
How about 45 min to 1 hr later? Should be off by then if working correctly. Stayed on after I shut the car off, locked, and came back 25 minutes later.....
