scottk Posted August 6, 2015 Report Share Posted August 6, 2015 Recently my 2013 Ford Edge with 14k miles started shaking like crazy when braking at any speed over about 40 MPH or so. Took it in to the dealer, and it turns out needed 2 new front rotors. Anyone else have this issue? I find it absolutely ridiculous to need rotors at 14k, there was no charge to replace so that leads me to believe it's some kind of known issue. The brakes need to be exercised regularly to keep the pistons and slide pins from binding. 14K is not much over 3 years! scottk Posted August 6, 2015 Author Report Share Posted August 6, 2015 I picked it up in '14 as a leftover, I've had it a little over a year. It's my daily driver, I travel roughly 30 miles a day 4 days a week so wonder if sitting on the lot for all that time had something to do with it. The rotors these days are so close to the tolerances that turning them to true them back up ends up making them very thin. They look really great but in the end are not a viable decision for daily use or even racing. They just look neat. I have been using the high carbon rotors with ceramic pads. So far all I can say is wow. The higher the heat the better they work. So I was wondering if anyone has bought performance rotors to fix this issue? Cross-drilled are fine for the street, but can't call it a performance feature really at most affordable price points. Great for looks, as long as you keep the holes rust-free.
