Odo data error

Our 2007 Lincoln MKX indicated an odo data error. Besides showing the error the abs, wrench, check engine and low tire pressure warning lights came on. The speedometer went to zero. The worst part was the transmission was stuck in a high gear and from a stop required over 3000 rpm to move the car. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Would you know of a Ford dealer that has repaired this issue? Everyone that I have talked to say they have never heard of the error. To drive the vehicle I disconnected the battery cable which reset it but also erased the error message. They couldn't do anything at that point.

I personally do not. They will need to see it happen before they can fix it. And I am sure this will happen again sooner rather than later. Did you scan for codes using an OBD scan tool?

This happened to us this evening in our 2008 Ford Edge (70k miles). Car felt like it was stalling* & it took a lot of pressure on the accelerator to move the car (but speedometer didn't move past 0), ODO Data Error Message came on; Airbag, Tire Pressure, & Wrench/Mechanic lights came on. There was also an error message about Tire Pressure Default or something.

Ā

I popped online now tonight to figure out what this could be - so glad I found this forum and this issue.

Ā

I have yet to see if the issue resolves itself once we turn the car back on.

Ā

Ā

*The stalling issue is a quite frequent issue, I've experienced over the last 11 months. I've taken the car in 2-3 times but mechanics were never able to diagnose the issue and then later I realized, the issue clears once the car is turned off/on again. (Which is why the mechanic could never diagnose the issue, by the time we had it towed there, the system reset). But in the recents weeks, the car often feels like it lags and then kicks into acceleration - so frustrating!! Even more so because I had a 5 year warranty on the car that just expired 3 weeks ago but the issues were never able to be diagnosed properly during the warranty.

Same problem. 2007 Ford Edge with 125K miles, odo data error, wrench light, airbag light, faulty tire pressure light, speedometer went to zero and transmission stuck in high gear, occurred while driving 70 mph on interstate. Had to push gas pedal to the floor to get the car rolling again from a stop. Parked the car for 2 hours. After restarting the car, the transmission felt like it had fallen out of the car when shifting from park to reverse and from reverse to drive. The problem persisted for about 2 miles, then it "reset" itself and began to drive normally as if nothing had happened. This occurred on a Sunday evening.

Ā

Took the car to the dealership the next morning, October 26th, after receiving error codes P0720 and P0722 from advance auto parts. The dealership replaced the TSS and OSS.

Ā

Nov 11th, the problem repeats itself with all of the same error messages listed above. I have the car towed to the dealership. Dealership informs me that my battery is dead and they cannot run diagnostics on the car with a dead battery. The battery is only 1.5 years old at this point. Dealership replaces the battery, but is unable to diagnose the problem since the electrical system has been reset from battery being disconnected. I am advised to drive the car as normal and the next time I experience the problem, to drive it straight to the dealership without turning the car off (if I'm lucky enough to have it happen during business hours) as they cannot diagnose the car without the error lights on.

Ā

Dec 4th, I'm "lucky" enough to have the problem present itself again on a Friday morning en route to work. I turn around and head straight for the dealership. I park the car and leave it running so my service coordinator can experience the transmission problems for himself by driving the car into the service lane. He also leaves the car running. I receive a call later that afternoon informing me that they know for sure that the smart junction box has to be replaced, as it is shorted out, and that they are getting the same P0720 error code again, but that they can not figure out why the tire pressure sensor and airbag sensor lights were coming on - they can't get my car to produce codes, because the technician COULD NOT DUPLICATE the problem. turns out the service valet guy TURNED MY CAR OFF. When the technician went to restart it, he could not duplicate. As you can see, I'm beyond frustrated. any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Possibly need to do a KAM reset so that the PCM recognizes the new sensors. Also, may need TCM (trans control module) recalibration. KAM Reset procedure:

Ā

The PCM will have to relearn after the KAM reset, so be patient :)

Ā

I would ask the dealership to make sure the PCM and TCM calibrations are uptodate while the vehicle is there. They should do it for free, especially seeing the major inconvenience to you. Let them do the KAM reset if you trust them, or do it yourself.

Classic TSS and OSS transmission sensor failures. If you do not replace them they will continue to create this problem. 700 dollar repair more or less. Once done you will be trouble free or at least I was.

My 2008 MKX 81k miles is now experiencing the ODO DATA ERROR issue. Scouring the internet turns up the TSS and OSS being the likely problems, but this is the first thread I've found where replacing them did not help. So now I am wondering if in the event those are not the issues, how deep of a rabbit hole could be it figuring out the problem?

Also, how far is it acceptable to drive in the "high gear" thing it currently seems to be in? I got off the road, into a parking lot and it has been sitting there overnight, but might have a go at limping it to the dealership about five miles away. If that's too far, there's an independant mechanic I've used before, only one block away.

Dealerships have been known to bungle easy repairs sometimes, so we don't know for sure the TSS/OSS sensors would not have fixed the issue for the poster above. I would not delay, take it to your independent mechanic to get the sensors (and all of the trans fluid) replaced. This is a pretty serious issue having gotten to the point of showing the error.

I would be towing it, TBH. But driving it carefully, with hazards on, 1 mile in a safe area should be ok. I would suggest a KAM reset but I don't think that will help at this juncture. An independent mechanic should also cost less than the dealer for the repair/replacement. Be sure to put Mercon V in the trans.

I returned to the car this evening, code reader in hand. Got a P0720. Upon clearing the code I could actually hear the transmission "reset," a soft thunk. Car drove fine like nothing has happened.

Ā

Regardless, drove it straight to the dealer, and plan on insuring they replace those sensors.
