candurin
Anyone have recommendations/experience with non-oem 20" replacement tires? Basically, my stock Pirelli scorpion (str, I think) tires need replacement already, with only 37k on them (my wife got 70k on her OEM Bridgestone dueler alenzas on her 2010 cx-9). I see plenty of 245-50r20 options on tire rack. Just wanted to get some feeeback from the forum. Thanks!
autom8r
I've had really good luck with Nexen.
candurin
Thanks for the heads up. I needed something local. Got a great deal on Bridgestone destination le 2 tires. if I hate them after 30 days I can exchange them for the ecopias.
Black11Limited
2011 Limited AWD / bought new.....now have 104,000 and will be putting on a new set of 20" Pirelli Scoprion STRs.....this is the first replacement set of tires. The factory tires lasted 104,000 miles and I could probably go another 25,000 or so. This is the BEST I've ever done on a set of tires. Amazing. I rotate between 9,000 and 15,000 miles. I run 40psi most of the time. Never rebalanced. Going to TireRack in the morning for another set of the same tire.....although I can't get the STR A....they only have the STR (without the A). The difference is the A has a more square edge....where the straight STR has more of a radius along the edge. I hear the A's are better for higher profile vehilces (crossovers)....but I hear they don't make the STR A's any more. I just installed a new DieHard AGM Platinum 950CCA 140min RC 48 month battery. Pulled the OEM factory battery. Expensive battery but should last another 100,000 miles.
macbwt
You are the tire guy. I have never had a set of tires remain usable and not touching the wear bar anywhere near that many miles after clocking over 600K miles in 12 years. In answer to the original question I have been using Bridgestone Dueler Ecopia 422's for several year and they have better snow traction than the scorpio's as rated under Tire rack. They are also a very quiet tire and will get you to about 70K miles before the wear bar gets noticable. Been through 4 sets and not had any belt seperations or damage due to road hazards. Seal great on the rims every time and not even weather checked when it comes to time to replace them and I never treat the tires with any preservative. The alanza's would be my next choice very quiet tires and smooth. 2011 Limited AWD / bought new.....now have 104,000 and will be putting on a new set of 20" Pirelli Scoprion STRs.....this is the first replacement set of tires. Edgee13
I am with the OP I only got 37,000 on my Edge and the Pirelli's are down to the bar already. Was thinking of putting on the Yokohama GeoLandar G055.
mallard
Count me as another who's only getting about 37K from the stock Scorpion STR's. Last night I bought the Scorpion Verde All Season Plus's off of TireRack, should be able to get them installed Friday. They get great reviews on TireRack. Went with the 255-50r20 size to fill out the wheel wells a little bit more than the stock 245's. Only a 1.3% diff in circumference so I should be OK w/ speedo calibration. boosted edge
I too, can only get about 36K out of a set of the stock Pirellis. I think the original STR a's lasted about 5K more than the newer STR replacement. I would love to find a better tire next time.

PrinzII
I have Yokohamas on mine and they are still fine nearly 30-40,000 miles later. However, the YK580 (for some unknown reason) is not available in 245/50/20. I wish it was, though.
