lpgao
I plan to replace my 2011 Edge limited winshield glass because it has crack or small hole. What I should know to do this?
Larry
Have it done by the pro's. Had mine replaced for $265.00 at the same place the local Ford dealer uses. They use Pinkington Glass which is a very high quality automotive glass company. Larry 2013 Edge
ExNascarDood
I have to agree with Larry on this. Believe it or not, the windshield is an integral component in the structural integrity of a vehicle. Aside from that, if not sealed correctly, they can leak without indication and/or detection which can cause issues anywhere from mold to serious corrosion. Usually if your insurance won't cover it automotive glass places will work with you to give you a decent price on a new installed piece (they'll just gouge some insurance company to make up the money lol )
omar302
Remember that the OEM windshield is SoundScreen, a model that has sound insulation sandwiched between the laminated panels. So if your getting something else, it migh not have the same sound isolation.

rwf78155
Does only Ford provide the windshield with SoundScreen ?
macbwt
Just ask the installation shop to ensure it is OEM compliant or equivalent. If they can not assure you then find a better shop. Go with the known brand windshield companies. Also ask them if they have different levels of windshields. A lot of the time they will try to sell the cheapest windshield in order to get the work so ask the questions. If not satisfied go to the Ford Dealer then you will be guaranteed a OEM part.
fishx65
Like others have said, make sure it's done by solid company. If they don't prime and seal the exposed metal properly, it won't take long for the roof line to start rusting.
Tacyon
Just had mine replaced ... used Safelite OEM brand with SoundScreen. The 3rd party stuff is identical to the factory OEM with all the same specs, but no "SafeLite" stamp. Watched them replace it onsite at my office and two of them were done with in 20-30 minutes. Without the proper tools, sealant, technique and experience, this is not a "shade tree" operation. ... about $400.00 total.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
I have sometimes had problems with wipers squeaking or streaking after the replacement glass is installed, probably due to differences in curvature. Hope this OEM type glass works out for you!
Larry
Hi Folks, I made a mistake on the name of the glass I had installed in my Edge. I stated Pinkington. The name is Pilkington. Sorry Larry
