ExNascarDood Posted June 21, 2015 Report Share Posted June 21, 2015 I'm looking to replace the stock 3157 Amber front turn signal bulbs with amber LED's. I'm In Canada (eh lol) so my '13 SEL used the headlights for DRL's so the turn signals aren't used for that purpose. What is the best LED I buy for this application? candurin Posted June 21, 2015 Report Share Posted June 21, 2015 The XP80 ambers from diode dynamics will be your brightest option. It will cost you, though. The only LED's I have purchased from the are my switchbacks and I have never been happier. They have outlasted all my other attempts at other brand switchbacks. http://www.diodedynamics.com/store/2011-2013-ford-edge-front-turn-signal-leds-pair Unfortunately you can't get away from a resistor. candurin Posted June 22, 2015 Report Share Posted June 22, 2015 (edited) If you're going for switchbacks, then the HP24 is your only option. If you want Amber only version, then I would go with the XP80. Either option needs a resistor. That's what I have in my edge and they look great with plenty of brightness. Never been flashed once. ExNascarDood Posted June 22, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 22, 2015 Doh - thanks for clearing that up! Now I need to decide if I want switchbacks or not. I assume the "set" of resistors is 4 as the video shows positive and negative connections for each lamp. Where did you mount the resistors to and what did you use to mount them. Historically, I've found it to be quite the biatch to drill into hardened steel on auto's - especially when using small bits for small screws. ExNascarDood Posted June 22, 2015 Author Report Share Posted June 22, 2015 Thanks Wizard! I was concerned the heat from the resistors would play havoc with the adhesive in such tape. I have access to high quality automotive tapes so I'll get some good double sided tape and go for it. Once I get under the hood with the resistors between the tape and some tie wraps on the wires I'm sure I'll mount those mofos up so they aren't a problem! TheWizard Posted June 23, 2015 Report Share Posted June 23, 2015 Assuming you get the resistors that are designed specifically for turn signal use, you won't have a problem with heat. The resistor is enclosed in a heat sink housing that will get warm but not hot enought that you would find it uncomfortable to touch. The flat back is ideal for using two-sided tape.
