Brake issues

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a 2013 Edge Limeted AWD. at 26k miles, my rear driver caliper failed. Had it replaced at the dealer. 200 miles later, the same caliper failed. Dealer said it was due to them making a mistake and reusing the old glazed pads. however at the 2nd fail, I was 65 miles away. I had called the dealer and they told me they had no time to help or send a tow, try to get in back. after I got it back, the rear was so hot it sounded like the metal was on fire. so I had the dealer replace everything in the rear, both sides. including brackets and hoses. yet again, 300 miles later, now both the fronts are sticking. and got a few pops from each front too. Dealer is claming the dont know what it is. All I know is that I have a very expencive paper weight that I can not allow my family to drive in. Any ideas on what this could be?

thank you

Not sure on the brakes, calipers and pads, but it sure seems like this problem is due to the actual master cylinder or antilock system. The calipers will only do what they are told to do by the master cylinder/booster and the electronic systems. I would say diagnosis is the key starting point here. I am betting the caliper did not fail, but another component of the braking system has failed.

Have codes pulled, either at an auto parts store or at the dealer. Might want to look up another dealer to be on the safe side. As mac said, have the MC and ABS checked. If the MC leaks, it can ruin the booster also. The HCU (head control unit) is critical to the EBD (electronic brake distribution)/proportioning valve feature of the ABS system. It or the ABS module itself could have gone bad. Have the wheel speed sensors & wiring checked for rust/breakage.
