Jumping forward it has been almost two months now without any require repairs other then general maintenance on Lullubelle. Cruising right along.

Blueberry has just returned from the Ford Dealership after having a Valve Body Separator plate replacement performed under Ford ESP and in accordance with TSB 11-12-10. MOMOSHA seemed happy so we all know what that means!! I am happy.

The MACTFORDEDGE videos are on a production halt for a bit as some much needed rest and recuperation is needed. Once I get a 20/20 perspective I will resume ;)

You think they actually fixed the problem? I knew when I made the caption I was maybe jumping out there a bit, but if they have not corrected the issue in seven years?

Might want to change the caption to 2007-2014, don't have data yet on the 2015-16?

I am sure there are changes in the PTU for the 2015/2016 Edge, but I'd be more inclined to say it's closer to the old design (pre 2015). This part number "DG1Z7251D" is specified for the 2015 Edge with hit climate (I think GCC) but is also the exact same part for the 2013-2015 Explorer & Taurus (with hot climate), so if one variant of the PTU for the 2015/16 Edge is a direct part for the older Explorer/Taurus, then I'd say the main AWD system is also similar.

Note: part numbers for other variants of the PTU for the 2015/16 Edge seem to be unique to the 2015/16 Edge, so there is definitely some change.

Too early to bag it and tag it, I'd hope with the new 2.7L engine they would try to put their best foot forward. Unless the bean counters still felt the PTU is no issue :(

Definitely no harm in recommending maintenance intervals for the PTU, regardless, but at this point, for the 15+, it is a precautionary note. Hopefully someone will take a look inside the PTU like the_natrix did for Gen 1 or someone from the Ford fold can enlighten us on the metallurgy/composition of these latest units.

Here's Scotty's take on the AWD:

I was reading in a different forum about this. Very interesting subject.

It seems that the PTU can easily last the life of the car. And it can fail after only a few thousand miles. It seems to be related to how hot the oil gets. Exceed the max temperature, even if its only once, and it breaks down.

Once it fails (from overheating) it breaks down and turns to a thick goo. Can no longer can lubricate properly. The seals then fail and plop, plop, fizz, fizz.

They have pictures of a failed PTU after opening. Clearly show a thick goo clogging the insides.

(At lease) one respondent reported that the fluid can overheat when driving at 85 mph for a period of time. I would think that towing would also be a factor.

Don't have the link, I'll try to find it and post here.

Edit: found the link, had it posted to home screen (Android).

Always wondered if there was an easy way to get that @$$!## wiper off without breaking it. Watched the YouTube videos showing kids popping it right off :{

Thanks for posting this.

I watched the same video, but figured leverage was everyone's best friend. Works like a champ and takes seconds.

Yea, after I watched it, went out and followed the installations shown by the kid in the video. Craccckkk. Next stop was at NAPA for a new wiper. Your screwdriver trick works like a champ. :-} Edited by enigma-2
