Kitulu
Are the 12v aux plugs always on? I bought a dash cam that plugs into the 12v power point, but even with the car off it is still getting power. I tried plugging it into the port that is on the console, and the port inside the center console, and they both are powered with no key in the ignition. If they are "always on", is there a way to make it so they only come on with the key?
enigma-2
I wired my Escort Passport Max 2 radar detector, l wired it into the back of my mirror using a premade harness. It only switches on when the ignition is in the run position. Positive is pin no. 1, negative is pin 10. Purchased from Amazon. No reason you couldn't rig up a harness and wire it to the mirror. WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The power points are ALWAYS ON. The OM for the 2007 & 2011 both state that nothing active should be left plugged in too long when engine is not running, otherwise the battery runs the risk of being discharged. enigma-2
Do you have a link to that harness? Here's what I bought. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006074LT8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's terminated especially for an Escort, but something simular will work if you have the correct power jack. I secured the connector with two miniature pull ties for strain relief, as the wires just push into the socket next to the existing wiring. Perhaps you could take an existing power cord, strip and tin the wires (to make them stiff enough to push into the mirror socket.) I went this way because I got tired of turning off the Escort whenever I shut off my car. Afraid I would forget and drain the battery (even though the Passport Max will turn itself off after 1/2 hour of inactivity, that's a half hour I didn't need to drain the battery during winter months). enigma-2
Perhaps something like this harness would work. http://www.amazon.com/PerformancePackage-Mirror-Power-Detectors-Inline/dp/B00RA38Y8U/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1432659210&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=radar+detector+mirror+power+supply
Kitulu
I just ordered this: http://www.amazon.com/Compact-Hardwire-Charger-Vehicle-Recorder/dp/B00L3XXRI0/ref=pd_ybh_3 which I can wire into the harness on the passenger side, once I figure out which wire is switched hot. Not sure about the passenger side but you can grab 12v ignition (white/orange) from the ignition harness. If you grab accessory from the ignition harness or somewhere else it loses 12v when the car is cranking, the ignition wire does not. Good luck!
