Liptoss
I concur with letting the engine run naked in the summer months (cooler - it's not a diesel) and replacing it for winder months to allow the engine to heat up a bit quicker and retain it's heat and possibly also protect the various top end components like fuel rails, coil packs from sand and salt. OR run naked all the time and make the foam into a really great stool seat in your garage. Just my thoughts

mrgrouper
Just so you know the foam engine cover makes an ideal roof for a rodents nest. My Edge was parked for two days. I went to start it and all sorts of lights went off on the dash, including check engine. A rodent of some kind decided to make a nest underneath the intake manifold and also chewed through the wire harness to the CHT sensor. Vehicle was not drivable, P1269 error. Not cheap to fix as the upper and lower intake manifold has to be removed to get to the sensor. If you live in the country and park your vehicle outside get ride of the foam engine cover. Just saying. JM
macbwt
Liberate you engine!! burn the bra eerrrr engine cover. My trialblazer does not have an engine cover yet the little varmints get in there anyway. Tired of cleaning out acorn shells.
Liptoss
Take a pot of peanut butter, mash in a full bar of EXLAX and leave it away from your vehicle as a lure. Varmints will crap themselves to death. LOL Worked great when a bear tore into our tent while on a fishing trip. He never came back to the area years after. Liptoss
New laws state woman can go topless in public. My Edge will too for the summer months. I'll replace my foams come the cooler Canadian months.
fishx65
My engine covers (back and front) and hood insulation were also destroyed by those little *****!!!! Pretty sure the covers are there for noise dampening purposes so I'll be ordering another one when I get a chance. I'm gonna see if my insurance will pick up the tab cuz I know they sometimes wave my deductible.
mcali6301
Wow, I have heard stories about rats in engines. Never happened to me. We have gophers around here..
macbwt
I myself have wood chuck problems. One of those rats in my engine compartment might be noticeable.
Tacyon
I don't think this small foam is going to really effect the thermal condition of the engine that much if at all. If you remove it and listen I think you realized why its there, sound dampening. The fuel injectors and other gear are quite loud making ticking noises that would surely cause service calls. Like hydraulic lifters when you're low on oil (wait, did I just date myself ?? ) back in the day.
fishx65
I went ahead and filed a mouse damage insurance claim today. $100.00 deductible works out fine cuz I need the front and back engine covers along with new hood insulation. I already checked the best I could for more damage but I'll have the dealership dig a little deeper.
macbwt
At least you did not mention pushrods. LOL Show up with a push rod engine and a contact distributor and 99 percent of the mechanics at any garage would just look at you with lost eyes and a shrug. PaulSchott
I brought an old company car Chevy into an oil change place for an oil change. This car would sit for months without use. The car was running rough and I asked for a new air filter. The mechanic freaked when he took the cover off and found a family of mice living in there. I think they were alive when I started the car but not when they arrived for service. RIPLOL Edited June 2, 2015 by PaulSchott
Liptoss
LMAO. Had an uninitiated person ask me if my Edge had a diesel upgrade. Reminds me how I fooled more than a few when I applied the 4.3 Fuel Injected indicia from my Chev S-10 on the back trunk lid of my Ford Focus. At a petrol fill up, had a guy ask me if I was running a turbo model! LMAO Yup. Noise suppression down, laughs up!
Liptoss
And besides... it's not Christmas any longer... the new "EDGE" has worn off... the wrapping (covers) have been removed... what surprises will this vehicle now throw at me! lol
