cglogosh
Hi I seem to be having AC issues, unless this is normal, but I dont feel like it is. My AC temperature either does not change much, or goes from on extreeme to the next with just one to two degree temp. change. I can set the temperature at 83 degrees and it blows rather cold air, but bump it up just to degrees and you are at HI or basically heat and its burning up. Then if go back down two degrees to where it was before at 83, its still just as hot as it is at HI. Is that normal?? I took it in to get looked at and they told me they ran tests and there is nothing wrong with anything to do with my AC system. But I just dont fel like this can be normal, I feel like I am crazy after I took it in because they told me it is perfectly fine. But how is being able to set the the temperature at 70 degrees or 80 degrees and the same temperature of air blows out normal? PLEASE HELP! akirby
First, do you understand that you're setting the temperature you want to achieve (like a home thermostat) and not the temperature of the air coming out? So it's possible to get the same type of air from the vents regardless of whether it's set to 73 or 83 if the ambient temp is a lot higher or a lot lower than that range. Second - when you set it to Hi or Lo it ignores the ambient temp and give you full heat or full A/C respectively. That seems to be working correctly. Just wanted to make sure you understood how it was designed to work. It may or may not be working correctly but you need to know how it's designed to work so you can properly evaluate it. cglogosh
Yes, clearly I know how an air conditioner is designed to work. I am not that dumb. Using your example, when I set the AC in my house to 83 there is a BIG difference than when I set it to 73, but in my car, no difference. akirby
I wasn't implying you were dumb. In manual hvac the temperature knob directly controls the temp of the air so some people think the digital temp works the same way. It's an easy mistake. To your point, if the ambient air temp in the vehicle is 60 or 90 then yes, you would get the same temp from the hvac at both 73 and 83 because in both cases it would be trying to heat or cool the vehicle to the set temperature. The fact that it blows the same doesn't necessarily mean that it's not working properly. If the ambient temp in the vehicle is 78 and you still get the same temp from the hvac on both 73 and 83 then that's a problem. Ignore Hi and Lo since those are overrides. If the hvac is set higher than the ambient temp you should get hot air. If it's set lower you should get cold air. If that's not working then that's what you need to show the dealer, not just that it blows the same at 73 and 83.
cglogosh
Ok, so how do I determine what the ambien temp is?
akirby
With a thermometer of course. But you can usually estimate it. If it's 80 degrees outside then you should get cold air at any temp below 80 for sure.

mcali6301
One thought: Make sure the cabin temperature sensor is not being blocked. That would be those small vents located under the ignition area. there is a tube leading from that vent to the thermostat so it can measure the cabin temp and adapt accordingly. Whatever the temperature of the air being sucked into that vent is what the computer will use.
Seitzer
Do you know the part number# to this sensor, and can it be change?
