macbwt
Just curious as to why everywhere in the world you can buy this truck except the United States. Makes absolutely no sense.

macbwt
You think the introduction would decrease sales of the F150? or sales would not be strong enough against the other foreign competitors?
akirby
You think the introduction would decrease sales of the F150? or sales would not be strong enough against the other foreign competitors? We've beat this horse to death over on blueovalforums for several years now. There is no easy way for Ford to produce a NA Ranger as it currently stands due to chicken taxes and lack of available factory capacity in North America. A good portion of the sales would come from F150 which would do nothing for Ford except lower ATPs and profits. The new Ranger is not nearly as small as the old Ranger. Just like Colorado, it's only about 10% smaller and does not get significantly better fuel economy. It's also on a bespoke platform which makes the cost much higher. Will it bring in some conquest sales? Sure, but probably not enough to overcome the loss of profit of the F150 sales. It might make sense if they could share multiple vehicles on that platform to lower costs and provide enough capacity to add NA manufacturing. What would make more sense is a true small pickup like the original Ranger with much smaller engines that can yield much higher fuel economy at lower cost. That wouldn't intrude too much on F150 sales and would represent almost 100% net volume increases. Similar to what they did with Transit Connect. In fact Transit Connect might make a nice platform for a small truck.

macbwt
Being I go to Panama on regular visits to family I can say that the Ford ranger would be right at home in countries like this and will most likely be sold in Panama. The vehicle of choice in these areas are the toyota hilux etc and this Ford Ranger would fit right in especially with the quad cab. Maybe this is why they play these markets with the ranger. I do know I do not see many full sized pickup in Panama and if there are they are using them to haul like dump trucks.
