macbwt
This is a step by step video on how to remove and replace a lower control arm on the right (passenger side) of a 2008 Ford Edge with 273,000 miles (third LCA on this side for this Edge). This video will depict a worse case scenario on how to remove the LCA when the bolts break. This can be a DIY as long as you have the tools available. Hope this video helps you learn from my experience. Depending on your shop you would use this job can be between 700 to 1100 dollars. I did it for $130.00 dollars. macbwt
I forgot to mention the signs and symptoms this 2008 Ford edge was showing. 1) Clunking sound when hitting bumps 2) When making left turns (at speed 40mph or higher) the Edge would make a noticeable change further left causing me to re-correct the path 3) Raised up off the ground no weight the tire would move inward or outward when I pushed on the front of the tire or the back of the tire 4) no noticeable movement when pushing on top or bottom of tire.
macbwt
About a thousand miles on the new LCA and going down the road good. I plan a replacement of the left LCA in a few weeks as it was noted to be loose enough to need replacement. I did not like the feeling the right side gave me when it was really worn. Preventative maintenance means other parts are not stressed and cost less.

macbwt
My mistake sorry I wrote the wrong number of miles. It was actually 1,523 miles since I replaced the LCA. My bust. I will try to be more accurate. LOL 1000 already!
macbwt
More planning and gathering for the left side. Getting all new bolts/fasteners/nuts etc gathered up and ordered new LCA. The next video will show removing those parts and replacing with new parts as a lesson learned and why. Had I done this previously I would most likely never have had to cut the LCA off of the frame of the Edge. My inspection of the CV boots as a note did show cracking in the rubber boots from exposure to the environment. I can only assume once the boot cracks open and the extended number of miles the CV has on it that it will disintegrate at an accelerated rate.

WWWPerfA_ZN0W
There's always a year where you have to put in the time and makes you wonder whether it's all worth it! Remember the joy of Orange Crush, and persevere! My wife read your reply below and asked me if that would really work? macbwt
I think she is secretly or rather hinting that once I get tired of the Orange Crush that as she mentioned I would then take the 2011 and she would get a new Ford Edge as in off the lot new. I am going to have to keep an eye on her to make sure she ain't outside sabotaging my Orange Crush. LOL There's always a year where you have to put in the time and makes you wonder whether it's all worth it! Remember the joy of Orange Crush, and persevere! macbwt
I am going to be making the twin to this video with ALL the parts on hand. I will also promote fire safety as I will heat them up first before I give them the ole one two. Just trying to make my life easier. MercyGirl Productions is on board, but has placed stipulations. Contract negotiations are going forward with an agreement soon. LOL

macbwt
The more I have driven the Orange Crush the more I relized that when the autobody shop aligned my edge the ball joints were worn and actually toed out due to the wear. They then brought the alignment toed in to correct the situation. I then installed the new LCA and now have a toe in situation. Tommorrow I plan on getting everything back to normal and correcting the alignment. Video to come.

Al3
Is it always necessary to change the entire control arm or can just the ball joint be replaced? I have a 2011 Edge SEL 2WD Edited May 19, 2016 by Al3
macbwt
Is it always necessary to change the entire control arm or can just the ball joint be replaced? I have a 2011 Edge SEL Pretty much the same amount of work. Plus you do not have to fight the steering knuckle to try to remove the ball joint and possibly end up removing the LCA anyway to punch out the ball joint. So may as well just replace the whole LCA and get new bushings in the process.
