macbwt
Got the replacements from rock auto. The total cost of the monroe maxlift supports was equal to the cost of just one at the local auto parts stores. They definately made an improvement.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Looks like a good choice, and an upcoming project for me I see you found a way to get your share of daughter-time
macbwt
More like ordered her, but as with all things once she was involved she liked helping and thought is was fun.
macbwt
A good test yesterday morning the monroe's lifted great at 11 degrees below zero. the originals would of had to be lifted up manually. I think this was a good choice. Now to see about their durability from use.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Probably take about a year to start acting up. At least that was the case with the Strongarm 6120s I installed. Fine above freezing, a muscle building exercise below. Too bad Redline doesn't offer these for the Edge. macbwt
My daughter is excited that almost 30 people have watched her video of me replacing these lift supports. I do not allow her to show herself on video so this is as close to being on youtube as she can get.
Richard Mead
Do you, perchance recall the part number? I just looked for the brand you referenced on rockauto and they don't have them listed.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Monroe 901848. Not listed for 2007, but listed for 2008. Go figure. Working well for me so far. The only place needed to apply some (not a lot) force is to get it to start closing. Edited March 13, 2015 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
macbwt
Agree, but my head does not hurt any more. Full up position and pretty quickly. Monroe 901848. Not listed for 2007, but listed for 2008. Go figure. Working well for me so far. The only place needed to apply some (not a lot) force is to get it to start closing.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
It does open quickly, so now I have watch the chin And it doesn't bounce at the top like the StrongArms did. Win-win so far.
macbwt
I guess we can compare as time goes as to the durability of these monroe lift struts. It does open quickly, so now I have watch the chin And it doesn't bounce at the top like the StrongArms did. Win-win so far.
cmillz1331
Are the Monroe's still holding up good for you guys? I just ordered the Redline Hood struts and it got me thinking to replace the rear lift gate support as well...
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
They are holding up ok on my Edge, but not as good as when new. Maybe 80%. Gets quite cold here these days (for this region), could have something to do with sitting outside 24/7? IDK. Maybe I should put a foam insulator sleeve on the tube just to see if it makes a difference.
cmillz1331
Sounds ok to me...I just placed an order with RockAuto for the same supports. I'm trying to make a big list of things I want to do by summer and I thought of these because I just ordered hood struts as well...I may consider replacing the lift supports when the weather gets warmer overall, as we're only in the 30s for a good while now in Cleveland (and that's if we're lucky). Definitely can't wait to install the hood struts though, and some work is under the hood and I hate the prop bar...
Brucifer
Just installed said Monroe's yesterday. A lot better than the originals, but personally wish they were a *tad* stronger - the point they take over and lift the tailgate a bit lower after opening.Overall, pleased with them. cmillz1331
Just received mine today from RockAuto. Hoping to have time this weekend to do the install and the Redline Hood strut install as well.
macbwt
I guess I could say either way the hood struts or the prop bar would be in the way. The Hood struts would definitely be in the way to work on the struts for replacement based on my experience.
cmillz1331
I don't do very much work under the hood that would warrant a definite need for the hood struts. But I just have the thought that prop bars seem cheap and the hood struts give a nice overall look when opening up the hood. Especially for those who spend money on adding upgrades under the hood... cmillz1331
Got both installs done today. Both are working great and definitely an upgrade from stock. Thanks for the recommendation!
pilotdog68
Is there a reason why you all decided on those monroe's vs any other brand/model? I'm thinking mine need done to and this is cheap enough to justify it.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
I have tried Strongarm and Monroe brands. Each lasted about 1 year for me: still working, but cold weather performance subpar. I just installed the Sachs product a week ago. Let's see if there's any difference, may try AMS if not. I don't open the liftgate everyday, maybe that makes a difference also? enigma-2
My daughter is excited that almost 30 people have watched her video of me replacing these lift supports. I do not allow her to show herself on video so this is as close to being on youtube as she can get. She's on your Facebook picture & she was in at least on of your videos (forget which one). I agree completely with your reasoning however. I was really paranoid while my daughter was growing up. Worried when she went off to collage, taught her some of the stuff I learned in boot camp. Turns out some punk jumped her in her freshman year in a dark area of Purdue. Like dad taught her, she kicked him in the jewels, palmed his nose and walked away. He didn't. Those who have never been a dad will never know the real meaning of what it means to sacrifice. Edited April 16, 2016 by enigma-2

czgu
Install an aftermarket power liftgate. Aftermarket power liftgate has 2 motorized struts. It's a stand along unit, which has it's own ECU and canbus. So it does not effect car existing system. It has enough power to open/close the tail gate in cold Michigan winter! But I cannot find one for 2008 module. Only for 2015 module.
