allport
Does anyone know if you can call ford and give them your vin to see if there are any outstanding flashes for you car? I noticed the trans is super soft shifting but never slips. Also gets a little temperamental when gearing down while rolling and no throttle applied. It all feels like ecu/tcm related to me and not physically broken
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
Pretty sure you would have to take it in to a dealership, they may not charge for the lookup though. They will need to hookup the Edge to IDS to determine what PCM software version is loaded.
macbwt
How many miles on it and have you ever had the rear output sensor replaced. Sure sounds like that sensor is starting to go south.

And depending on the dealership, you may have a lot of convincing to do if they don't see codes set in memory. TSS/OSS sensor replacement (should be done at the same time) often fixes shudders, sometimes slippages in the transmission.
allport
So shudder at all. No codes either. Only one I get is 1248 and I think that's steering wheel sensor.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
How many miles on the Edge? A trans fluid drain/fill might take care of it.
allport
125,000km just had ptu inner and outer seal done. Seems to be worse after that too. Considering another drain. And fill soon.
macbwt
I would drive my Edge on roads that were hills and when I went down the hill not much happened but when the engine started to climb the tranny would jerk ever so slightly over time. The longer this went on the harder the jerk would be when it down shifted to climb the hill while using cruise control. I could lessen the shift force slightly by driving without cruise control. In city driving it would upshift and jerk. This went on for say about 1k or 2k then finally the rear output sensor failed. Your discription sure sounds the same as I did not get even one single code until it failed completely. Since you never replaced yours I am betting it needs to be changed/replaced. Thing is the dealer will not beable to say this is the problem until it fails. 700-800 dollars to repair.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W
The sensors themselves are not that expensive, but if you can find a service shop or are mechanically inclined, the labor costs should be much less. There's no whizbang step that is required in the R&R process. Edited March 9, 2015 by WWWPerfA_ZN0W
macbwt
Back then I was obviously leary of working on the trans. Today I would tear into it (and Pray) fix it myself after a few visual aids and having the lift available everything is now easier.
