Gasman
I just bought a 2014 Edge and part of the deal was to install a Ford Factory hitch on it with the 2" receiver. When I got it back I saw that they had notched out the bumper skirt for the hitch receiver. I thought the factory hitch ran under the bumper but dealer said they had to notch them out and used a template. They did a nice job but was not happy about them cutting out a piece of the skirt on a brand new vehicle. Can anyone confirm that this has to be done to install a factory hitch on the Edge. rwf78155
Just had a Hidden Hitch installed on my Edge Sport.........nothing was cut or trimmed. The hitch is barely visible and I couldn't be happier
TheWizard
The factory hitch does require trimming of the rear valance. Aftermarket hitches (such as Hidden Hitch) do not. That's why we went with the Hidden Hitch instead of a factory one - we didn't trust our lame dealer to do the installation without messing it up. But if they did a good job, I wouldn't worry about it.

The hitch sits within the bottom black trim piece which is under the rear bumper. There is a cutout in the trim piece, but you would have to get down on your hands and knees to see it. Ā If it were to hang completely below the trim piece, I would think it would be too low. Ā Standing above the rear and looking down, you can't even see the cutout. Gasman
Well it is done and over with. They have assured me that it is a Ford hitch and they did a nice job of trimming it. Just wish I would have known would have had the hidden hitch installed and probably saved a couple hundred bucks. Thanks for the replies
rtball
I installed a Ford factory hitch on my '12 Eco. Hitches were/are not available with that engine. I went factory because it had absolutely no underhang. I did the install in about 4 hours, but a second one would have taken half the time. The extra cost is well worth it in my opinion. BTW, the cut-out is embossed on the backside of the bumper cover. AND it was kind of a fun project!
